Aged domain that has never expired before and is still indexed would be easier to work with than an expired domain. This is assuming everything else is equal.

With an expired domain, you have to work to restore the authority and get it indexed. An aged domain that is still live and index won't need same amount of work. Another risk with expired domains, after all the work, it may fail to index or regain all its previous authority.

I would go for an aged domain with good backlinks. Backlinks are something you should have on top on your priority list.

Between two domains: A and B, if A is 10 years old and has fewer backlinks but B is 4 years old but has several good backlinks, I would go with B.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to an aged domain,
Not aged websites as they will probably will cost much more, neither are as good, not for PBNs at least,

In terms of SEO, the domain age has little to nothing to do with the link juice & authority willing to pass, in case it's used as a PBN website,
OP, you should aim for expired & auction domains with clean history, anchors & decent link profile, these will get you the results required,
Aged domains sellers are mostly trying to manipulate newbies while over pricing the domain age, it doesn't have such a big of a value

I replied hoping that he meant an aged domain with links. Because truly, a domain that has beem lying fallow without being used for anything is as good as brand new domain. Such a domain shouldn't count as aged domain as they bring nothing to the table. Well, I felt that's what he meant. But yea, you're right.

Anything relevant to your niche with good metrics (RD, backlinks)—less spammy, non-penalized, cost-effective ones—is good for building your network.
