Aged domain with no backlinks vs new domain

I'm looking into domains for a niche site. As expected my exact keyword match is registered and for sale on Sedo for $5k+.

However, there is an available domain with a partial keyword match I found on expireddomains.com. It was created in 2011 but has no back links (ahrefs confirms). Looks like someone squatted, then let it expire.

My question is, other SEO factors aside, are there any benefits to using this aged domain over a brand new one? Could it possibly help me rank/index faster than a fresh domain?

Thanks.

If the expired domain has a not been used for anything else, then it sounds llike a good one as it will have age to it, which is a good thing. Have you checked it with the wayback machine to see how it has looked over time?

Agreed, should check on the Wayback machine how it looked before

Brand new and now you can use those exotic TLDs such as .CLUB or .TOP

I have no problem ranking them.

Thanks to both of you. Wayback machine shows no other use - just seems to have been parked for a few years.

Anything different you use for new TLDs? I've read and heard that new TLDs don't rank as well. It's a bit of a tangent from this thread, but I'd be interested to get your perspective.

Age doesn't really play a huge huge role in anything if there's no content on the site and never was. It's a different story if you make a blog or news site and leave it for years then come back to it. But if it's just some registered domain with no backlinks and no content, the age means shiz.

Totally same as .COM

This is a brand new site and one of those new TLDs . I just choose what's the lowest price at that moment, I don't care which one it is. You can take any (.CLUB , .SITE , .XYZ.....whatever)

Here is the explanation what is the keyword about and what I did.

1. Site is in evergreen niche with a lot of HUGE competitors that everyone heard about. Every keyword in this niche have a lot of strong competitors. As you can see this KW have 1900 monthly searches in USA
2. So, I bought exact KW domain on December 31st and...
3. ...one day later (January 1st) I ordered $10 package of social signals.
4. As you can see one week later it appeared on Google.

What we learned from here

1. There is no such thing as Google Sandbox
2. You can rank new TLDs same way as you can .COM
3. You can do it with $10 worth of social signals
4. Now, to push site to page one I would just need few more links (my guessing at the moment)

Thanks for the Update, I've never believed in the Sandbox theory, but thanks for proving them wrong, If you wouldn't mind, Can you pls create a journey thread for this particular site so that you can update us later on on your Success Story ( When you reach Page 1)

There is no benefit to buying an old domain if it has no indexed content and no backlinks. Additionally, new domains enjoy a slight novelty boost for a short period of time.

Naah, journeys are boring. This was already too much from my side :)

Let us know the result of this experiment.

And can we learn which social signal package did you purchase? The ones I found at Fiverr are useless.
