Aged domain question

A client approached me in developing their 7 y/o domain.

Now, from what I've heard aged domains have much more trust rank in the eyes of Google.

However, I've also heard that it's important to consider aged domains with an SEO history... and this domain has not been used for anything. 0 backlinks.

So my question: What is the defining factor in gauging the effectiveness of an aged domain? Merely the fact that its been registered for 7+ years, or a history of SEO?

The domain age is only one small factor for determining authority. I would prefer to have a younger domain with a decent link profile.

In my experience once a site is 6 months to a year old age has little to do with it. I can easily outrank a 7 year old domain with poor links with a six month one with unique content and a handfull of decent links.

In a perfect world you'd have both though decent age and links.
