After Effects Rendering Issues

Hey Guys
Need Some Help with after effects.I Have been using after effects for sometime now and i am facing a lot of issues with rendering videos.The size of file goes anywhere from 3-20Gb and takes a lot of time to get it done and in the meanwhile it hangs the windows.The second issue that i am having is that even once the video is rendered it doesn't work smoothly .Waits for a bit and then plays in between.Can anyone tell me where am i going wrong.

Is it CS6 or CC? If it's CS6 then render in H.264 and not AVI. If it's CC then theres a setting called Enable Deprecated Values or something. Enable that and use it to render in H.264. Same quality and much smaller file size. This should fix both problems but maybe not the second. If you still have the second problem just make sure you video is around 5 to 10 mbps in the render settings.

Thanks in worked but i didn't understood the render setting part as i couldn't find the 5-10 mbps speed thing.
I Just changed it to half and it worked but the resolution is very low.
I also wanted to know i have an after effect template with frames.when i remove few frames the next frames stop a bit and then goes to the second frame is there anything i can do so that the next frame loads without any lagging.

Try Vegas Pro, I'm working 3 years, it's perfect.

i will but right now i got lot of ae templates.

Been a while since I used it, but it definitely sounds like you're using completely the wrong render settings. Try mpeg or quicktime animation. Especially as you're using templates and such you need to be using compression codecs fitted for that and not actual film compositing which would yield huge files.

Sorry, I can't be of more help, I used to know AE inside out, but that's been many years ago now.

A render time on a fast machine should not be more than a few minitues (depending on your comp length of course), so if you see it lagging, just cancel, and re-adjust your render settings until you get it right.

make sure you're using the setting for multi-processor rendering, and also you can allocate almost all your memory to rendering the file instead of just a portion.

if you're putting it out as flawless AVI it's gonna be huge, that's why it's not playing smoothly. run it through adobe media converter and make it h264 and play around with the quality settings a bit.

I Did that and even changed the size to half and its doing great but the quality is not so good.
And Yea i realised h264 is Best for cs4 and above.
But i can't find where is the render speed setting.
I just went to composition>add to render queue>then there is base setting and loseless setting. so where do i have to change to get a hd video of 1280*720 or 1920*1080 .The length of the videos are not more than 3 minutes though.

From my research I did a while back people were saying to keep the initial render as lossless. This is going to be a huge raw file, I have 16gb RAM and a quad core and my PC can't even play it smooth. So what you do is open adobe media encoder and then re-render the file as h264 and screw around with the quality.

for rendering speed go into PREFERENCES > MEMORY & MULTI-PROCESSING there you can select how much RAM to allocate to rendering and how many CPUs to use etc.

3-20gb?? Jeeze, could just be to much strain on your cpu, and it crashes, perhaps theres not enough cpu power or gpu power

Yeah, you need to updgrade your system dawg. More ram more processor more everythign. Alternative you can use dedicated servers to run your software up, that should speed thigns up but will cost some.

Everything that everyone said above +

1) Disable preview while renderring
2) Hold down the CAP Locks button while you click on the render button
3) Clear disk cache and memory cache before render. you can do it in Edit > Preferences
4) Hold down the SHIFT key, then (while holding it), Click on Edit > Preferences > General (then you can let go of SHIFT)... and find the little menu item on the left side at the bottom called 'Secret' (Yes, I know... there really is a secret menu in Adobe Ae CS4-CS6 ,... why they didn;t just make it available outside this cloak and dagger method I dunno)... anyways... Check both boxes to Disable Layer Cache and to Ignore Errors

Then hit ok.

Try your next render like that and see how it goes. Outside of that, not much you can do except up your Hard Disk to an SSD (I use a SanDisk Extreme III SSD and run Ae off of it and it FLIES), and up your physical RAM (try out the Corsair dominator Platinum series, again, will make your Ae BURNING FAST. Of course these last two options require some $$$. But if you use Ae a lot... let me tell you, it's worth EVERY PENNY for not dealing with 4 hours renders. Heh. I remember those days. I feel your pain. hope it helps.
