Affiliate website drop (not update related)

Does anyone have any experience restoring an affiliate website (expired domain) that was ranking at the top of Google for many keywords and then suddenly dropped off?

This is not update related, and I have experienced the same with other domains in the past.

Any tips would be highly appreciated, as I am willing to test and see if anything can help. If anything does, I will post the results here.
