I want to move away from adsense since they dont show ads to everyone all the time and waste my ad requests

I prefer both. Adsense give more or less steady income. Affliate marketing gives a better chance to scale the income.

I prefer affiliate marketing since one sale can earn more than many AdSense clicks.

Leaving AdSense would be my recommendation if I were in your shoes. Ad requests are wasted and money is lost because it doesn't always display advertising to every visitor. For more stable results and command, you could want to look at direct monetization possibilities or alternative ad networks.

You can probably use something like Ezoic that shows Adsense ads and other networks' so if Adsense didn't put an ad you can have another instead in the same position.

They slowed down my site 2-3 years ago but maybe they improved since then.

You don't have to necessarily stick to adsense. There are other display ad networks, if you qualify. Having said that, I like affiliate marketing more. It doesn't have to be one or the other, do a mix of both.

AdSense is passive but has low control and RPM. Affiliate marketing offers higher revenue per conversion and builds a direct relationship with your audience, but requires strategic content and trust. I prefer affiliate for owned assets; it scales better with a loyal audience.

I think if I had to choose between affiliate marketing and AdSense, I’d go with affiliate marketing. It feels like there’s more potential to make money because you’re promoting specific products or services, and if people buy through your links, you get a commission. Plus, you can pick stuff that matches your audience’s interests. With AdSense, you’re pretty much relying on people just clicking ads, and you need a lot of traffic to make serious money.

If Adsense is wasting your impressions, either switch to Mediavine/Raptive/Ezoic once you have enough Tier 1 traffic or drop ads altogether and monetize with affiliates, leads, or your own products, which convert far better.

Affiliate marketing is a better choice than AdSense because you earn more from just a few sales instead of thousands of visitors, you have full control over your links, the content looks cleaner and more useful to readers, and while AdSense is easier to start, affiliate marketing is where real profits actually come from.

Affiliate marketing, without a doubt. AdSense is passive money, but you are dependent on Google’s will regarding fill rates, smart pricing or sudden RPM plummeting. With affiliate marketing, you are in control of your offer and your funnel and you only get paid for an action which is better than getting compensated for an impression with AdSense. AdSense can be a good fallback option.

i prefer both. if AdSense doesn't work perfectly on your end you can try with other networks like ezoic, media.net, propellerads etc

AdSense works best when you have massive, mixed traffic, but for smaller or intent-driven sites it often underutilizes impressions and limits control. I usually treat it as a temporary monetization layer, not a long-term strategy. Once you understand your audience’s intent, move toward affiliates.

AdSense is simple to set up and can cover your hosting bill if you’ve got a lot of untargeted traffic, but the fill rate and payouts are out of your hands. If your visitors are coming for specific solutions, recommending a relevant product or service through an affiliate link usually pays more per click than a banner ad ever will. Some publishers run ads at first to get a baseline and then layer in affiliate offers once they see which topics resonate. It doesn’t have to be a binary choice, though — a mix of display ads and thoughtfully chosen affiliate programs can balance steady income with higher-value commissions. Track your numbers and adjust based on what your audience responds to.

I prefer affiliate marketing because it usually offers higher earnings per visitor and more control over monetization. AdSense is fine for beginners, but affiliates scale better with targeted traffic.

Personally, I prefer affiliate marketing because you have more control over the products and the earnings per click are usually much higher than what you get from AdSense.
