Affiliate - how to start?

I can't say that I'd recommend starting on Facebook for a beginner, but I primarily work as a freelance writer so affiliate copy is free on my end and I specialize in long-form stuff which tends to be expensive.
The basics are pretty easy: find a niche, promote products or offers within that niche, collect money.
What you really need to start is the following:
1. A niche
2. A source of traffic and somewhere for it to go
3. Offers and/or products to sell
Other than that, the route you take and the way that you go about things is entirely up to you and your own skills and resources. That's... well, that's really about it. I'm personally a big fan of Amazon Affiliates and SEO generated traffic, but I'm familiar with it and I've been helping people get that sort of site off the ground for years now in a variety of niches.
In other words, I'm comfortable with that whole process from the ground up and I know the big mistakes people tend to make with content and their strategies.
In the end it's all going to depend on how much money you have to work with, if you have anyone on your side, and what you know and don't know. Keep in mind knowing that you don't know something is fine, because it means you can learn. What takes most people out is what they don't know that they don't know.
There's a ton of links to CPA networks and the like on BHW, I doubt anyone is going to feed you information which can be found in the stickied posts across the board.
Good luck, the best way to do it is to dive right in and get experience. Expect to fail a lot, you're not going to get rich overnight. Playing with methods and getting experience is going to help more than any book or "100% serious for-real method."
