Please keep in mind that I'm very new to SEO and have no experience with it. I have a relatively new website with limited traffic and would like to improve it's rank for a few low-competition keywords with around 10k searches per month. I only have a handful of competitors in my niche and they all have garbage products so I feel confident that I can eventually surpass them. However, they've been around for many years and have established communities so it's difficult to compete with them online.
My plan right now is to acquire backlinks to help my rank for certain keywords. This seems to be the best way to improve rankings quickly without breaking the bank. However, this takes time to happen and I'd like to get more eyes on my site right away. So while my backlinks drip and take time to fully take effect, I'm thinking about using Adwords PPC to temporarily list my site at the top. Given the low competition, the cost per click is not overly expensive and I think this would be an excellent short-term solution for my situation. My main concern is: would using Adwords PPC interfere with the results I will see from the backlinks? I believe Adwords traffic doesn't count towards building rank, but I'm unaware if enrolling in the PPC program inhibits the growth that I would see with SEO. If my organic rank improves as time goes on, I'll gradually shift my focus off PPC and more on backlinks.
Also, which statistic matters most when determining the strength or value of a backlink? Does the niche of the backlink truly improve the rank gains and/or quality of the backlink? Is quality preferred over quantity when it comes to backlinks? Is it better to buy or rent backlinks? Are permanent backlinks truly permanent, including the link juice? About how often do the algorithms change, resulting in a drop in rank?
I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong section. I just want to try to foster conversation around the subject and learn more about it.
