I can tell you from experience that being at the receiving of a adwords search based clickbot is not fun at all. I had a campaign that was 400% ROI. A couple of my competitor decides that they don't want company in their niche and they both send out clickbots (rotating IP, rotating browser, rotating region etc.... but one is too stupid and uses static IP, I guess he will get picked up sooner or later).
Contacted google. You get the "it's invalid clicks, not click fraud" line. And "our google algorhythm is super smart and finds all the invalid clicks, and you will get a refund IF we find anything", Yeah right, like they're not making money either way! Meanwhile my LP CTR goes from 70+% to less than 5% in the matter of two days. And my ads CTR shoots through the roof. Stuff this crap I am going to find alternative impressions based traffic with legitimate sites.
This has cost me a lot of money, and I am just like the next marketer just trying to make a living without having to resort to nasty tactics like this.
If you use clickbots to make your competitor poor, then I hope someone bigger and nastier than you comes along and you will see how painful this can be. It's one thing to bend the rules a little to get an advantage, but it's a whole new level of evil when you use clickbots to do this type of thing.
