Hello All,
I have run my business site for several years now. I recently came up with the idea to start posting articles on the blog that are highly competitive and niche related.
These articles will attract a wider audience than the main company site. However, I believe becoming an authority with many good article out there will help build the brand and community. Additionally, I believe we can bring in more revenue with affiliate links, etc. on these articles.
Anyway, I have posted two related articles recently. One article the targeted keywords get about 10k searches with different keywords. The second article gets about 50-100k monthly searches for different keyword variations.
To my surprise, the first article I posted was indexed almost instantly and landed on the second page of Google for multiple keywords within an hour. Now, it is on top of page 3/bottom of page 2.
The second, more competitive article instantly got indexed and was on page 5 for main keyword. The longer tail keywords were on page 3. Now after a day, the main keyword it is not ranked for, but longer tail keywords are mostly on page 2/3.
Anyways, I am a bit surprised that these articles are ranking so well fresh out of the gate with no link building. Is this normal? The main keywords of the site are with much lower volume and it seems like an uphill battle to rank these pages.
I started posting on a related forum with some nofollow backlinks. What other advice do you have for sending some links to these articles that will push them to page 1? I do not want to get too aggressive with the link building here, and at the same time, I do not want to order low quality links that will ruin the chances of these articles getting ranked.
