Advice Requested - Phony Press Releases

I work in an industry where bullshit news is released regularly, often disguised as opinion pieces or rumors...

Issuing such a press release that gets picked up by major media outlets can often cause a reaction that could make someone a lot of money.

I personally think this is bordering fraudulent, but again, if it is dressed up as an opinion or "hear say" it might be perfectly legal (just not ethical).

Any thoughts?

I am thinking of going down this road, but don't want to do anything illegal, nor do i want to do it and have it traced back to me (whether it is legal or not)

I don't want to say which industry it is in at this stage.
