advice please

Hi All,

Just wondering what the "experienced" opinion is on the following from eb*y?

Is this simply a case of buy the site,host or be hosted,and earn commission(too good to be true?),no actual direct retailing.I presume I have to do the seo on it myself.Im on a .ie domain,would the .com have a negative effect?
They are selling other types of sites too,similar model I presume.
Any advice would be appreciated,Im looking for new opportunities!.

Are you saying that you have the .ie version of the same domain name? If that is the case then I think it would be worthwhile for you to bid on this. You would be a lot better off with a .com that a .ie

This auction gives you the opportunity to get that.

If that isn't the case then there are other things to consider. I have to take off for a couple hours. I'll give some further suggestions if necessary when I get back later.

I am .ie based and was told that .com is less favoured(by google when doing a local(Irl)search,anyway,thanks for your prompt response.
Am I to assume the way this works is that google etc run paid ads thru the site and I get a return on ppc?
If you get the chance I would appreciate your thoughts.I built my own site recently and it has been a battle to get to page 1 apart from building the site,links seo etc so I was thinking this would be an easy option to make a few € by only working on the seo end of it?

Ok, what I was going to tell you is that those sites they sell on ebay are really generic. There are some nice looking themes, and this is an example of that, but the seller will be loading it on a hell of a lot of sites. He'll sell this one to you, go buy another domain name and load the same site on it to sell again on ebay.

That doesn't mean its bad. 90% of the people that buy these turnkey adsense sites, don't have a clue how to promote them. They'll pay the hosting for a couple months, decide it was a waste of money and let it drop.

If you already have the same name, just on a different tld then I would recommend getting it as long as the price doesn't get too high.

Even though you say the .ie tld will rank better for you locally, it is still a good idea to have the .com for your worldwide traffic.

The seller will also be offering hosting for the domain. That is really where he is planning to make his money. But you don't have to use his hosting. Just buy the domain on ebay, and then tell him to you have your own hosting and have him send you the website files.

You can run the adsense and other affiliates off the .com version adn then any direct sales you can run off the .ie version. Create links between the two domains to make it into a larger site. This lets you rank for both a .com which will get you ranking in the worldwide directories, and the .ie which will keep ranking for you in the local directories.

The worldwide traffic you will make money from the adsense and affiliate offers, and the local you will make money from direct sales.

You'll have to still work on seo and getting backlinks. But like I said IF you already have the same name for your site, this is a good idea. The theme design looks nice so you can incorprate aspects of it into your existing site as well. Because its a keyword name I'm assuming your already working within the same niche.

Thanks alot for the thorough advice.I have hosting here so I might get them to transfer if over to me.I agree with your points about the generic nature but if its going cheap I might just pick it up and do what I can with it as a starter site.I am looking at it from the point of view of advertising revenue and no hassle(apart from the seo!) such as stock,shipping admin etc....I already have one of those sites!!

I'm not advising against getting those sites. If you get them cheap enough they can be pretty worthwhile if you know how to get traffic.

It's just best to understand what they are. If you listen to the seller it will seem like all you have to do is buy the site and watch the money roll in. If you're in this forum, you should obviously know that isn't the case, so I wasn't trying to educate you about that.

Mostly I was getting to the issue about it almost always being a good idea to grab the dotcom version of a domainname that you already have on a different tld. You can do a lot more with the .ie and .com combination than you could ever do with only the .ie tld.
