Hi, I've got a website that sells adult toys, lingerie etc and I'm looking for advice on marketing the website and how to generate traffic to the site which results in sales.

You can try facebook and Instagram ads - seen quite a lot of shops promoting products this way
Just target your ads properly, test different settings and see which audience converts better

We tried to post up some Facebook ads but they got taken down. Guessing they don't allow adult content advertising via ads

Organic traffic or open a affiliate program or buy direct space on adult sites.

You need adult traffic, so facebook is not your best call, and overall facebook is quite expensive, but you can check on exoclick, since right now is one of the best display ads network for adult.

my friend don't use facebook ads or instagram ads they will ban you quickly try to use another networks

You can try Instagram, it is the best for the shops. Plus you can alway put the advertisement with help of the Affiliate Netwroks.
