I have a website that does quite a bit in terms of traffic and does so globally. Until recently we used to cater to this traffic with translation pages using a plugin called Weglot that integrated with our content, created new url slugs by the translated language, and even has the option to translate tags. I was excited at first. The solution indexed well. The downside quickly became apparent whe the translations occured dynamically off page on Weglots servers massively slowing down the site as it tried to create logic for 1000 different pieces of content in 6 different languages. I made the tough choice of terminating the service recently and have seen a significant traffic drop from this, but the performance increase on the site from not having the speed issues caused by weglot have increased our conversion rate and we essentially aren't feeling revenue effects. I redirected all of the pages that ceased to exist to our English pages and it has mitigated a good portion of the negative impact.

I'm looking for a new solution that will help me scale translations (over 1000 pages) from English to primary languages like French, Spanish, Russian, etc. Is there a plugin for WordPress out there that creates the type of taxonomy and page structure internally without making an outward server call like weglot did? Is the only was to do this to create it myself?

Would love anyones thoughts who has experience.

WPML looks the more scalable of the the two but I can't be sure. I'll provide feedback on what I find.
