After reading through meatheads beautiful post about affiliate marketing, I think I'm going to give it a shot. With some hosting services including domain to be under $30, I would be stupid not to try this out.

One of the biggest decisions I have to make is what niche to do. Obviously, I'm not expecting someone to hand feed me the perfect niche. I am simply looking for guidance on how to make this decision before I invest in a domain name that will contain something related to my niche.

One idea I have is simply some preliminary testing with GAlerts, by searching keywords related to the niche that I would be able to mold into a way of sharing my website.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Niche selection can be the hardest part of starting an internet marketing venture. It is up to you to not make it a stumbling block and for this method, it has been recommended to not try and overthink this. You are basically trying to get your feet wet with the method so that you can later use this experience to 'scale up'. The internet gold can come later but for now, just focus on getting started with something. Those who take action will be the most successful.

That being said, let's answer your question about niche selection. Google trends is a good start and so are places like Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook. What are people talking about and sharing with one another? Keep in mind that this method involves selecting a niche that has around 20 related products that you can promote. Don't be too narrow. It is less expensive to write your own articles so try selecting a niche that you are knowledgeable in. Do you have any hobbies? Do you participate in any activities that you could talk about?

Once you have a topic that you feel comfortable talking about, look for questions that people would ask pertaining to this particular niche. Look for products that you have experience using and feel you could write about. Don't try to find the internet gold here. Just keep things simple for now and once you get some sales rolling with this method, it might be time to create a new project.

I hope this helped answer your question for you.

Thank you for the detailed answer. I'm currently using ClickBank, so offer selection is poising a bit of a problem.

How should I view niche selection. Am I choosing a niche and then products to support it, or am I choosing a group of products and creating a niche around that?

Meathead has a thread on making money with Amazon Affiliate program which is popular right now so I incorrectly assumed you were referring to that thread since you made no mention of ClickBank. Now that you mentioned ClickBank, that does change things a bit, but the methods are still somewhat similar.

Niche selection is still going to be centered around something that you have some experience dealing with. It just makes things easier since you will be able to find traffic sources and write most of your own content. Looking through products on ClickBank, there are several key criteria for selecting a product to promote which I won't go into detail here. You can read plenty of threads that talk about gravity, etc. in the ClickBank section on this site.

Take for example golf. Maybe you have experience with the sport and have also dealt with the frustration that it can bring. Now, search ClickBank for a golf related product. You can then do keyword research to find what others are searching for in Google related to golf. On your website, you can talk about golf and discuss ways other golfers can improve their game.

Now that you brought up meathead's other post about Amazon affiliate, I decided to go read it and of course really liked it.

So I ask to anyone, between those two methods, which of the two would be easier to get into as a beginner?

I would recommend dealing with Amazon for a beginner. Unlike ClickBank, there are millions of products in a larger variety of niches that you can promote. Also, Amazon is a trusted brand that many of your target audience already buy from. Pick a niche, pick products to promote, get traffic to your website, then get that traffic over to Amazon.

The key to ClickBank is getting into the RIGHT product at or before launch so that you can start to outrank your competition. Good products will sell themselves in a lot of cases. You have to constantly look for new products to have steady earnings. Amazon affiliate websites can be steady earners for YEARS when you choose the correct niche and products.

I agree with this 100% I have tried so many methods, but with Amazon Affiliate there are boundless opportunities. Clickbank promotion is tricky due to people become very weary about e-book "scams". Amazon is a reliable source that people trust.
