So I was checking Ahrefs today and I noticed that a single domain has linked to my website 5,000 times over the past week. They have linked to my images, not the pages itself.

For avoidance of doubt, no I have not purchased SEO links.

I understand that Google is pretty savvy when it comes to recognising these types of links, but should I be worried?

Any ideas what I can do (if I can do anything) - first time it's happened.

Is there a way to block it from happening again in the future?

Thanks!

Linking to your images? what are they embedding them or something? are they stealing your content? have you looked at any of the pages that are linking to you?

There are many image aggregators who post images with links. Just like coupon websites.
I don't bother with them.

Appreciate your responses guys.

They're pages seem to be loads of images around the niche on one page, it's almost like a Google Image result type page - I can't tell because it's in a different language. It's certainly an automated style website though.

Yeah I thought that and I'd expect it too, just I've never been hit up with 5k backlinks in a week from 1 domain.

I have a similar thing happen, image aggregator sites scrape images from my sites and post them on their sites with link back to my sites.

they're not hot-linking, I wouldn't want them to do that. you should check if they're hotlinking your images

the backlinks don't seem to affect my rankings, yeah the links are from sorta spammy sites but they're way, way cleaner than most of the links you can buy in the marketplace here

If you use Google chrome, just right click on the page and then drop down menu the pops up click on translate...

Yeah, they are not hotlinking but all the links are dfollow which has heavily skewed my profile now. I don't mind them sharing the images either, they are using the site as essentially images around certain topics of the niche.

Thanks, it's a website based on my niche & it has no real content apart from images. It just has the key phrase the images would show up for in Google and then 100s of images below it, which when clicked on opens in a lightbox. That is it.

You can tell they have automated the process as they have done the same with all of my competitors that have been ranking for the same terms.

Cheers.
