I've been thinking about making a flash game site to host ads on. I read mixed reviews about doing this, mostly saying that people are on the site to play games and not click ads or buy anything.

Does anyone have experience with this? Any advice that you are willing to give?

    Thank you

It's a very competitive market, which I assume means they are making money.
And if you're asking basic questions like this, I would assume you'd be in over your head.

This seems like it would be a wayyy too saturated of a niche. I mean, this could have been a good thing to try like 4 years ago.

Flash games are slowly dying also, more and more people surf on iPads/tablets, where they can't even play these games. Alot of the casual gaming is done via iOS and Android apps now (and the ones still doing it on desktops are likely playing games on Facebook).

So to summarize: saturated + dying niche = maybe better to look for something else.

you could make it in html 5 / css 3 then it works on any recent browser on nearly any device

but it is already super saturated as mentioned

You need to buy a script that allows you to trade traffic with site owners using the same script. The traffic trading is all setup in the admin panel of the script. It's gonna cost you $100 or more, but well worth it if your gonna try and succeed in the flash games niche. Arcadetradescript is probably the best. TradeArcadeMaster is new, but looks good. There's also a wordpress based script that has a traffic trade addon.

Yes, you can really make money, unless you make the visitors stay on the site for some reasonable time and you get diversified ad platforms. You can put ads, where the users view it before starting the game, put adsense or other CPA.

I started off making online games sites a long time ago. If you are planning on making a generic "play free online games" site, don't plan on having any luck. If you are able to find a niche within the online games sector, you may have some luck, but the profits with adsense and other ad networks are drastically lower than if you had a handful of micro niche sites.

Had one such site a long time ago as well. Even back then, without today's saturation, the income was sub-par (and adsense earnings were way better then, IMO) so I sold it for a pretty penny, gamesite script included. Today, as already mentioned, flash is barely hanging in there. It won't take long for adobe to turn their beta HTML5 animation packages (reminiscent of flash) into commercial programs to slowly replace their propietary behemot of a plugin, but even with HTML5 gamesites, the attention span of visitors won't do much click-wise for your ads.

Consider how easy it is for you to setup:

    1) Buy a script and games pack
    2) Install
    3) Link spam the shit out of it

Every other site in the market has super dirty links. With a site like this, you're going for longtail keywords and just trying to scrape up some visitors. Once they get there, you need to put ads everywhere so they're bound to click on one eventually.

After a month or two I guarantee you'll be seeing $1-5 days, which you can sell on Flippa for $500 easily.

Worth it? I'd say so. Just go for it man - not too much work or money and there is a good chance of a reward.

Thanks for the input guys! It's been up for a few days now and I've probably made $2 bucks so far from traffic from facebook friends and a forum I go to. This is one of many sites so no big deal. HTML5 sounds like a good idea, I'm just wondering if my arcade script will support it.
