Advice on buying a high DA link

Looking to plough some cash back into one of my domains.

Been talking to a blog that has DA 56, and he is looking for $99 for an article.

Could I ask
1) Is this a good price
2) Is there anything I should be checking about the domain
3) My domain is only DA 23 - do you think this will make that much of an impact?

If there is anything else I should be asking, or looking out I would appropriate any input.

You surely have not enough info for decision. There are so many factors which you should know: how spammed that domain is, how relevant, Traffic, Backlinks dynamics, how many links allowed per article.

Check all the info more deeply and try to improve your knowledges in link building so you can freely choose the best options among the garbage.

Thanks for this... Any idea how I could check the traffic of the site + will this have an effect on the impact the link will have to my domain..

1) Will the domain's traffic effect? Much better than DR, DA. Yes.
2) How to check it? Ahrefs, Semrush (paid ones) and SimilarWeb (free one).

Is he going to write it or will you provide the text? If the 100 bucks include the article and the site is legit, I’d probably take it.

1. Clean backlink profile. Make sure its not spammed with comments or google redirects to trick DA

2. Relevant to your site

3. Minimum 10K search traffic. For $99 I would want to see above 25K visitors

4. Real authority backlinks - WSJ, NY Times, Forbes, Techcrunch, Mashable, HuffPost, etc.

5. Minimum 60% do follow links

6. Check their most recent posts and see if they are indexed. If a post is more than 4 days old and not indexed, that could be a red flag

You can only start benchmarking when you have bought a whole ton of articles.
Personally, to learn if I were you I will start flying low and build experience from there.
As many things in SEO there isn't a rule of thumb for this.
There are pages of link selling (newspapers and all that) that post their prices per article. You can also use them as benchmark. (I have many in my country, but in other countries you have to research a bit, maybe you could ask in another thread)

It's not just about DA.
You have to look at a variety of other factors.
DA is still the general standard, but it can easily be manipulated.
You need to be looking at the ratio of referring domains to total links.
The more referring domains, the better, and the closer the ratio the better.

If the guy has a high DA site, but then a small number of referring domains, then it's probably a manually inflated metric. (he's lying, essentially)
Ultimately, you need to check a metrics tool that shows numbers of keywords ranking.
If he doesn't have any keywords ranking, then it's a total scam.
A legitimate site with that kind of DA should have thousands of keywords ranking.
