Advice Needed: SEO Presentation for clients website

Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice and maybe links to software and or templates.

Basically iv been asked to produce an SEO audit for one of my clients websites. Im a web developer by trade.

I want to put together a presentation to be delivered via powerpoint and show my client their current "position on the web".

They have many competitors so i was thinking of comparing their position to that of their nearest 3 competitors.

I want to present this information in an easy to digest method and will probably use some nice info-graphics.

I then at the end want to suggest a plan of action.

I also want to compare their social media penetration.

The problem i have is were do i start?
There is so many facets and areas to show i dont know where to begin!!

Any advice or maybe a template i could follow would be great.

As you say, that is a lot of info that you want to present.

I would go like this:

I. introduction to seo

II.
- current state of their website SEO wise
- current # and information about backlinks
- current social media presence (FB, twitter, etc.. ) + how many followers
- current rankings for main keywords

III.
=> how you're gonna improve their online seo
=> how you're gonna improve their backlinks
=> how you're gonna improve their social media presence
=> what impact this will have on their current rankings

And from there develop a strategy based on taking advantage of their strengths and reinforcing their weak points. Good luck with your presentation!

Adding to what GiorgioB posted, don't forget to emphasize what that means in terms of the bottom line $$.

show searches for their keywords, competition for those, other low hanging keywords they should be targeting, what that might mean in terms of traffic, and what that will do for their bottom line.

Business people have far less interest in the esoteric techie stuff that excites us, and are just more interested in the bottom line.

I agree, don't worry about the how, concentrate on the why they need it done.

As an approx guide:

Google number 1 spot will pass through approx 36.4% of the traffic to the site

#2 12.5%
#3 9.5%
#4 7.9%
#5 6.1%
#6 4.1%
#7 3.8%
#8 3.5%
#9 3%
#10 2.2%

Obviously these aren't exact as nobody but google knows for sure and it varies from sector to sector but they should serve as a good 'kick up the ass' for the business to get to number 1

There are only ever 2 things a client wants to know in the order of importance

1) How much money will this bring in
2) How much will it cost

They certainly don't care about how many links competitors have or how many tweets etc - all of thats your problem.

All a business owner really wants to know is what will be the return on investment

Couldn't disagree more. If I'm a business owner and I'm paying someone $10K to boost my website.. I'm gonna want to know what the guy is doing with my money, and get a feel on whether or not the guy seems to know what he is doing. I may not understand it all, but I would want to hear it out.

All previous points are valid. I've been making new biz presentations for decades and I can tell you that there isn't one script that works for everyone. You need to have a basket of facts and information at your disposal, but if you don't walk into the meeting planning on learning what the business desires you're bound to fail. He agreed to meet with you for a reason, discover that reason and then you have the roadmap to landing the business, good luck!
