advice needed - promoting an event quickly?

i am trying to get people to come to a dance event in china. i wonder if any blackhat technique can help.

as far as i know, meetup.com is the most powerful place to promote an event. patch and eventbrite are good for US domestic events even though i have not gotten anything from them even for a domestic event. even craigslist, backpage, and classifiedads.com have not given much at all.

now i am trying to do an event in china. meetup gave me results but limited. i guess dance event is not something that people "need." however, i suppose i should be able to get more people than simply by posting to meetup. so far what i have done is finding 2 of the most popular social networking sites. post the meetup link on those sites. now i am trying to use GAS SER to create links to those social networking links. however, i have no idea how to scrape chinese sites to create the backlinks? how am i going to scrape chinese sites? (the tools i have are scrapebox, and SER.) will english/US sites help?

anybody has any idea about this? i only have 1.5 months.
id appreciate any input.

i think youll have more success promoting this offline, like flyers, radio, word of mouth etc...

a lot can depend on your budget, if you have the right budget, you can make it go viral or trending easily or if you don't, you still can be creative, and find out a not so expensive yet ingenious way to promote it even offline, like that nightclub in sanghai which threw tickets looking like hundred dollar bills into the new years crowd and people went mad about it resulting in quite a few deaths unfortunately, nevertheless it was a brilliant idea with poor execution

this is not something that can truly go viral, i imagine. (it's not some funny video or controversial article. its almost like an ad.) how do i make it viral or trending if i had the budget? my facebook accounts do not have much of friends..

i concur, a dancing event can go viral, people like to party and it's easier if you have the budget of course
you just need to look around in the BST section and leave it to the pros or post a thread in the hire a freelancer section, personally if i'd have the budget, i'd hire people who can make a hashtag trending on twitter, hit the popular page on instagram or even better, do the same on chinese social media sites which really is your target audience
offline is an other option, but why not do both?! hire hot college girls to hand out flyers on campuses or places which is frequented by the younger crowd
not sure about your budget, but radio ads is another option

try posting to renren, 51 , kaixin001 , one helpful tip may be that chinese users are big on social games, so that maybe a good place to start , all the best

Can't you just use PPC advertising on Baidu? Get someone to translate your advertising into Chinese, and with a bit of keyword research you should be able to get the word out quickly.

WeChat and Weibo both have advertising platforms now.

Or just focus on websites that cover the particular city or province your event is being held in, and advertise directly on them.
