Hello to the BHW Community,
I have been reading the BHW forums like crazy over the years and finally decided to join the community today. I wanted to see if I could ask a few questions regarding a dog website venture of mine.
And with the rest of the post below, I did try to word it in a way that it can also provide other BHW readers with some ideas as far as what they could try for monetization purposes (e.g. Chewie, Amazon, eBook, email list etc..).
Here we go.
Info about my Website:
1. My website is specific to one type of dog breed. I have a bunch of articles about the different mixes of that specific breed as well as other content relating to that breed's temperament, behavior, health, food, training etc.
2. My Product: I wrote up a 96 page eBook guide for this particular dog-breed, the guide is not the best end-all-other-guides type of guide, but it is decent and whoever reads it can definitely learn a bunch of things about the specific dog breed that I am focusing on with my site (it does however include some general dog stuff in it though).
3. My Current Traffic: Only getting about 400 new users per month to the site so far. However, I have only just recently started really getting on top of things with this website and have increased my traffic to this amount in about 15 days (see screenshot below). Quite a bit of my work over the last 15 days is also not showing up in the search engines as of yet either.
4. My future plans: Add 40 Plus articles, posts and pages to site in a very short period of time to bring in lots more traffic.
5. SEO: Zero Off-Page SEO currently being utilized, I'm only using the On-Page.. Slowly starting to add social media shares for each of my new posts/pages.
Questions / Needing Advice on Monetization
1. Should I try to build an email list to monetize? If so, I was thinking about giving away the 96 page eBook to entice the visitors. Currently I have the sign-up forms placed under the header, on the sidebar as well as in the footer. No email sign-up landing page, do I need an email sign-up landing page? I have had zero sign-ups so far, which is kind of worrisome (not sure)?
2. Should I just try to promote my eBook like this website for example and not even worry about the email sign-ups (https:// germanshepherdsavvy .com/)? Doesn't sound like I should do this, just based from the whole "the money is in the list" thing that I have been hearing throughout my whole website building experience.
3. If I do utilize the email building list, then turn around and try to sell them products after about a month of 3 emails/week (for a total of 12 emails for the 1st month) of general free information (no products yet for first month to build trust). What type of products should I then sell them? Any specific examples would be greatly appreciated.
4. Should I try to leverage the whole Chewie dog food affiliate program thing where you get $20 for every new sign-up?
5. Should I do Amazon Affiliate Marketing?
6. Or what else could I use to monetize?
7. Lastly, what is the typical conversion rate for monetizing your traffic? So for instance, with my 400 visitors per month, is it safe to assume that I should at least get some sales with them? They are all coming in organically via my specific dog breed long tail keywords.
Conclusion
Apologies for the lengthy post with a large number of questions, just wasn't sure where to start with all of this. I understand that I am a noob here and shouldn't expect a huge number of replies, comments etc.. But I thought I'd give it a shot
Any advice whatsoever would be appreciated!
