Hey Guys:

I have a client who is selling training material for a standardized exam. Something similar to a preparation book you might buy for the GRE, LSAT or MCAT. Which white hat SEO option would you recommend for him :

1. I put up a forum for him ( i.e. phpBB) , and load up 100+ posts. Relevant content that might be picked up by the search engines.
2. I create 100+ blog posts on his website.

Which might have a more positive impact on his search engine ranking ( website blog posts or forum posts) ?

Thanks for your opinions,
Cheers

Forum would be better. The links would be "follow" but you would not get tons of link juice because all the links are coming from the same domain. But, you would get a lot of organic traffic if the content on the forums is quality.

Blog comments get page rank easy than forums. But Forums creates a friendly atmosphere with professional discussions, in blog comments mods has rights to remove or edit the discussions.

As for SEO, blog posts will have a great impact. But you ultimately want traffic/leads to sell your product and for that forum will definitely perform better as compared to blogs.

Guys, in your opinion, how SEO friendly is phpBB 3.0 ? I have heard some talk about a mod that makes it SEO friendly. Any thoughts ?

I believe that blog posts will have higher impact on your rankings. However, you will almost certainly get more traffic from forums.

Hands down to blog posts. The more the high quality content on the page, the better. In forums, there's too much "distraction" - buttons, graphics, related posts/threads etc, which dilute the page.
