Advice needed for project startup

I'm wanting to know if it's possible to get a plugin theme etc to create a paid members only auction site or will I have to go custom design from scratch .

I plan to auction salvage damaged repairable cars and have it as paid membership site to weed out all the time wasters, also with a directory page of parts suppliers who people can access parts for the vehicles

Is this something I can start with Wordpress and have the required plugins or will this need to be a custom setup?

both will work, just custom setup will cost more.

There are dozens if not hundreds of plugins, apps and scripts that allow for paid membership. A good place to start would be codecanyon.net.

Thanks for the advice guys I guess even the scripts on code canyon would need customising for my needs

then you will need to hire a developer for those customizations. there are wordpress plugin developers available in fiverr as well. you can try contacting them
