    Hi there

Am just getting into my IM marketing, have a fair amount of tools that I need to get going.

Was doing a scrape earlier with SB while running UD submitter and a few chrome browsers and my laptop just stopped. Must have been a good footprint! ha

I am thinking of getting a new/refurbished I7 but I am unsure about the RAM. I was thinking maybe 12GB?

My current machine runs an i3- with 4gb ram, and I noticed this is nearly always flat out lately.

Any recommendations on what the best would be to have?

Note I am looking to run scrapebox, ultimatedemon, GSA and a few other content tools all at the same time, while still wanting the thing to be useable!

    Much appreciated for replies.

Get a VPS for these, it will be better than any home pc/laptop you can get running on your home connection and will run 24/7, while your own laptop+home connection will be totally free for your regular use.

100% What Zak said, definitely go with the VPS. Not only will it run these programs better, but it won't totally suck your bandwidth!

Consider you'll run some IM software 24/24 so a small server / vps would be the best for these kind of task.

    Ahh I never considered this....

I am not a whizz with computers but I do a bit of server work on my site as we have that hosted on a VPS...I do find it quite slow to use though, and we pay something like £70 a month for an i3-.

Judging it on that I think I would rather get a dedicated laptop, unless someone can recommend a really good VPS which is fast to use?

Without pointing you to any provider, which wouldn't be objective, a VPS with 1 to 2GB of RAM should handle the load perfectly well.

The main asset is the internet connection where you can run your tools massively faster than you would on a home based connection.

At the end, it would be also cheaper too.

UD is a bit greedy ressources wise so a 2GB VPS should be perfectly fine.

I think your just saying its really slow to do actions on. Hard to explain what I am trying to say here, but yeah it would be slow to surf the web, do the things that you do on your personal computer, but as far as starting up programs like GSA, it may be sort of choppy getting them set up / started up, but once they are , they are sit it and forget. In other words you hit start and let them do their thing, during this process VPS's usually have extremely fast internet connections/ plus they won't suck your networks bandwidth.

On another note a VPS is much cheaper to get started up.

Get A VPS - Try Hostamus here they have BHW BST Thread.

As far as using LapTop for Im - I have my second licences installed on a Dell XP 14 z was like $800
I-7 8g ram and has a small SSD and harddrive

I use this as Portable Machine if needed -- but to be honest VPS first then a Laptop for backup.

Ah I do know what you mean and yea it is quite slow to get things done, but I can see your point in saying that once you get the stuff on there then its easy to go. Its the bandwidth available that is the advantage and not the speed of using the operating system.

The reason why I put that here is because I wanted to get an expert opinion...and I did not think of VPS. We have a bandwidth in work of around 10meg but on the server I am guessing it is going to be a lot more.

If you're going to expand you IM operation and that implies costs (eg. laptop), you should make a business plan and answer for yourself some essential questions.

Think about that laptop as an investment in equipment. That equipment will help you scale up your productivity by how much more?

If you scale up productivity by x%, how much will your revenue/profit margin grow?

With the data collected (productivity and profits) what is the estimate of the equipment's useful life in order to properly calculate the amortization(laptop) ?

If the amortization is finalized more than 6 months you should rethink your plan and come up with cost deduction solutions.

From a point on in a business or in a venture's life, there is no place for guessing. Every action must be taken according to a well thought plan.

    Just my 2c.

Thanks for pointing me towards Host-stage , they look great! While we are on the subject, does anyone have any other suggestions for VPS's. I forget which one I used before but they were good and I was satisfied. I think Host-stage is slightly cheaper, although the one I used did come with 50% off BHW code for first month. I like the free domain with host-stage tho :)

I would recommend Hostage as well. I have only been with them for a month or so and have no complaints thus far. Give em a shot. Good luck
