    Hello,

I would like to ask you guys a somewhat noob question: Is it a good idea to host a custom domain on a free host like blogger to cut down costs ?

I need to set up 1-2 smaller sites and I am not that much concerned with low SE rankings. I do not anticipate the websites to ever gain large traffic. Are there any problems with this approach that I do not see or understand ? I wanted to make a personal portfolio site for my freelance business which I would link to my prospective clients directly.

Thanks in advance for all the answers.

I wouldn't say it's a bad idea at all. Theres nothing wrong with blogger, and if you want to cut down costs, why not! Just make sure they have all the features you want and go for it. There's nothing holding you back if you want to upgrade later!

If you want your business to be taken seriously, you need your own domain.

    Period.

I have been ranking for some long tailed keywords with custom domain hosted on blogger and currently making $25-50/day. so i guess it is not a bad idea. And since you will only make it is a site for your portfolio, it will be great to cut some expenses. You just have to find the blogger template that would fit into this. Just remember to use your custom domain and upload your own favicon to replace bloggers logo so it will look more professional. :)

there are plenty of people doing it like that. all depends on your niche. i had a friend that sells baby products via blogger even without a custom name.

but there are limitations to free hosting which you gotta find out for yourself what you really need. if it's nothing fancy then i guess it's ok.

Custom Domain rarely matters if your work is good.
