Advice for moving content [newbie]

I'm new here!

I just bought a content site monetised through affiliates
The page with the most traffic is actually the home page which is an article.

What's the best way to move this article in a new page and redesign the home page to look more.. homey?
If I just create a new page and copy the content will it rank like before?

I don't want to loose this traffic because it's by far the best one

I don't think you can do it

If this was an inner page you could have just 301'd it to a new URL, but 301-ing your homepage to inner URLs is pretty silly and you're gonna lose your rankings for sure, so I don't know. Maybe someone else knows??
