I messed around with Steemit for a few days when I first joined and have not really posted on there again. It's been about 2 months since I joined. I made just a few posts on there and have a few Steem in the wallet. I noticed when I looked at other people's wallets I saw other users sending tiny amounts of SBD to others along with a message.
I did see some users using this medium to contact popular users asking for up-votes and other things while sending just 0.001 SBD so for $0.90 you could contact about 1000 people at the current price. For $90 you could send a message to 100,000 users.
Has anyone tried this? Is there a limit on the amount of people you can send to in a certain time period? Am I missing something with this? Obviously spammy links or people begging for money or up-votes to pay their bills wont get much traction but I imagine if you targeted the users you were sending the money/message to it could be lucrative if you have a good offer or service you are touting.
I see lots of people compiling lists of all the users and lists of all the top users. With a well crafted message and some automation I could see that having quite a good ROI. But that's of course if there are no limits and if its not a huge breach of the TOS that would get your account closed. Its just for the cost it seems pretty good. I know that there are LOTS of bot accounts on Steemit too but there are lots of real people as well.
