Advertising my site

Hey guys, I've created a forum that I would like to make huge, I've tried advertising in some other forums but I need to make it even bigger.

What are some things I can do to advertise and increase traffic into my site?
(not looking to make money right now, just get more members)

Fake it initially. It's like people queuing up outside shops because other people are queuing. Sure there is a script on here, remember a thread about it

It's not mainly traffic I'm concerned with, it's that I want Registred members..I provide value in the site, but need to get members joined in.

Theres a service that will create thousands of registered members and then post with those members. Look for it here on BHW and I'm sure you'll like it.

As bhlon said, you'll need to show others that your forum is populated and the new visitors will be more inclined to register and contribute.

A forum is hard to get going (in my experience). It takes time to build your members list. Only things I can suggest is get on other forums in the same niche (find the biggies and get active).
Also, might be an idea to nominate some admins - you need a bunch of people who will get your forum going - reply to anyone who posts etc - you might have people who will be honoured to do this, or you might have to offer some compensation to them.

Other than that, you could buy traffic but can't vouch for success in that method, maybe look on fiverr see if there's any interesting gigs going.

Also, get a twitter page going, build your followers, DM new followers and set up maybe rss feed direct from your forum to twitter using twitterfeed?? - you can find plenty gigs on fiverr to gain you some followers quick (look me up if you want - davids356).

I don't even use twitter but If it means to create growth then I'll try to method out

I know the general consensus with twitter traffic is that it don't convert that well, BUT I have three twitter accounts for my main site, total of about 12,000 followers - I've built them up quite carefully and they are fairly targeted, it brings me a steady flow of traffic, il say that much.

Will try out twitter thanks!

If you place a link back to my site somewhere where someone can see it (like near top of posts or in the header etc etc) I can place a link back to your forum in each of the posts I put out...? I've only just started this autoblog a couple weeks ago but in time you would start getting traffic, and thanks to PHP I don't have to manually put in your link everytime . PM me your forums URL and if it relates to my site in some way (site is in signature) I will help you out .

Oh, you can also go to twitterfeed.com and see if your forum has some sort of plugin that publishes an rss "item" everytime a post is created, then sync the site's rss feed with twitterfeed.com and them sync that with facebook, twitter, and as many social networks you can find that allow the syncing. That's how I am doing things now... although I am not getting a gushing river of traffic right now eventually I will, you just got to keep at it and keep finding bigger and better ways to get your site out there, and by being an active member here on BHW, you are definitely in the right place when it comes to feeding off knowledge .

Using Social Websites is a better choice to increase traffic.

Like facebook? I would do it step by step, posting more interesting articles for starter.
