Hello. Been trying to promote a GMB profile with Google Ads, but I'm really failing here. When promoting a local business, it's defaulting to "Performance Max" and I'm not seeing any option to target by keyword.

Any idea on how to promote a GMB profile, with targeted keywords, to optimize for calls?

Is your location a retail or services? Performance Max has an option for local products but it's mainly geared towards retail as I am sure you've seen. Also there are two other types of Google Ads for a Local Business that you will want to avoid if you are looking to have more control over your targeting. Google Local Services Ads is one. This is geared towards business that are looking to make a few quick clicks to set up a campaign and have Google optimize the performance. The other is within the Google Ads Dashboard (ads.google.com), there are two different modes: Smart Mode and Expert Mode. Smart mode is going to be another highly limited option similar to Local Services Ads.

Expert Mode is going to be your best options for what you are looking to accomplish. This will give you more targeting options (and freedom) to set up your campaigns. From here you can create Extensions for both Phone Calls and Location. You'll need to connect your Google Profile to you account however you can do it through Oauth if you owned under the same account you are using for your ads.

I am happy to help if you have any other questions.

I had same problem the other day.
Made GMB for a client and when client decided to start G Ads campaign (they offer 300$ for free on first campaign) i entered G Ads profile via GMB.
And everything that WebOracle said was like that. It was different UI and i didnt understand anything lol.

But that 300$ aint free. You need to spend 3 hunna and they will get you coupon where you can spend extra 300$.
