I encounter some difficulties when I try to remove the widget's H2 tag... This is my sidebar code in style.css!

#sidebar { float: left; width: 250px; -moz-border-radius-topright: 10px; -webkit-border-top-right-radius: 10px; -moz-border-radius-bottomright: 10px; -webkit-border-bottom-rightradius: 10px; }
#sidebar .block { margin: 13px 0 52px 0; color: #404040; padding-left: 20px;}
/*#sidebar .block h2 { margin-top: 13px; padding-left: 53px; width: 172px; }*/
#sidebar .block h2 <- Here? { background: url('images/sidebar_block_h2NONE.png') no-repeat; min-height: 27px; width: 200px; font-family: Century Gothic, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 6px -20px; color: #7a7979; font-size: 1.5em; padding: 0 0 0 55px; font-weight: lighter; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px #fff; }
#sidebar .block .divider { margin-left: -20px; }
#sidebar .block ul { margin: 10px 0 0 0; }
#sidebar .block ul li { color: #404040; margin: 0 0 25px 0; background: url('images/list_w.png') no-repeat; background-position: 8px 0; padding: 0 0 0 33px; }
#sidebar .adwrap {margin-left:-17px; width:253px;}

I am using the Polished theme from ET.

@Gabriel - yeah, there. replace 'h2' with 'div' or whatever HTML tag you replaced the h2 to in the template files. Remember you don't only change in CSS but also in HTML templates - sidebar.php and possibly other places especially if you have a widget enabled sidebar.

WOW, Really Thank you heartly, BHW is Best, i am learning lots of things from this forum already,

that is a really nice thread and great information shared. thanks for sharing..

Madocto,

Got a question about on page url / keyword grouping + location: So if I have a site that is targeting keywords and each of those keywords need to be targeted in a certain town/ community. Here is what I am doing but not sure if its best practice or not. My keywords are gutter guards and related/synonymy. So here is how I have organized it.

keyword group 1 = gutter guard, gutter screen, gutter protection
keyword group 2 = gutter cover, no clog gutters, leaf free gutters, leaf guard

keyword group 1 + location1+ location2 location3 = page 1 here is a sample of my url used website/gutter-guard-or-screen-home-protector-location1-location2-location3
keyword group 1 + location4+ location5 location6 = page 2 I have mixed up my urls so they are all different.
keyword group 1 + location7+ location8 location9 = page 3

keyword group 2 + location1+ location2 location3 = page 4 website/gutter-covers-leafguard-leaf-free-no-clog-location1-location2-location3
keyword group 2 + location4+ location5 location6 = page 5
keyword group 2 + location7+ location8 location9 = page 6

Does this make sense or is there a better way to group and organize. Part of my logic and also what I need clarification on is the location issue. Part of the problem is where do you put your location if not the url. I find I can only put it at the bottom of each page plus maybe the meta description. So that is the reason to have it in the url.

Has wordpress lost some of it's appeal for it's use in SEO? I always had good luck/results with WP but now things seem to have changed.

Great post, it's nice to find quality info for WordPress developers to help with SEO as you mention most theme designs are natively horrible for SEO

You have categories (ideally in a silo structure if you have lots of content),...

I talked to a guy once that told me one of the secrets to SEO was <something about> "Silos", so I dutifully went around the internet looking for a way to connect this word with "SEO". So now I find this thread and so far you've mentioned it twice.

Do you define "Silo" anywhere?

wow, this was an epic thing! Thank you so much for this share!

This is just amazing, thank you! Do I need a lot of time to see the results?

Really well thought our post, and good advice too! Especially your comments about tags and no-index, as that is such a common issue for new WP sites.

Man u killing me...
i'll try few cant say full but at-least few for sure....
Thanks for the up man....

Usually internal linking structure is a matter of usability and usability means making it easy (usable) for the user. So do that!

I don't get it why you say you can't put the location in the page. You can put it in the title, in the content, wherever you want... Am I missing something?!

WP has ALWAYS been complete shit for SEO. Still is. The fact that you need to implement the stuff I recommended in this guide is a pretty good sign it is shit at on-page SEO. That being said, pretty much all CMS' out there are shit if you use them as they are or misconfigure them. But is not the CMS' job to be SEO friendly. It is your job as a SEO. And be happy that a CMS isn't perfectly optimized by default because this way you have an advantage over other webmasters just by doing these changes I recommended.

Also, remember what Kimi said, because it is true:
Keep in mind that this without good off-page SEO will be 0.

Unless you are targeting ultra low competition keywords all these improvements will offer no advantage by themselves without link building and trust.
