Great information as useful madoctopus, but I think google algorithm's might've fixed the problem with using the sidebars in h* tags already.
See what tags the the sidebar widget names are.
Nonetheless, this should give you an advantage over your competitors if your site is new.

Do you do on-site seo for anyone's site for a fee? I'm having a site created right now but its probably done in 1-2 weeks. At that point ill probably have a VA help load products and content to my site (it will have maybe 1000 products or so). As of now I'm looking for someone experienced in the on-site seo once the site is completed. PM me if your interested. Thanks.

@ItsHere - no that's not the meta robots. That is '<meta name="robots" ... />'.
About tat software, don't you think is better to understand yourself what an optimized page means? Software is just software and most of the times is wrong.
@white92 - it works. Ideally you'd have H2 after H1, but is not a big deal if you have H3 after H1. Yes you should use H1 tag on homepage. As a matter of fact you should have H1 title with main keyword and H2 subtitles (maybe titles for panels) targeting additional longer tail keywords. For example take the following example, but keep in mind I have a bit of keyword stuffing in the titles.

Also guys don't stress it. It is more important to work on link building in the begining. Having good on-site SEO is useless fi you don't also have links and trust. So don't waste time fixing the on-site SEO if your site has like 100 visits/day and no 1st page rankings.

<h2>Buy DSLR digital cameras</h2>

On the main page? That's how it's supposed to be.
On the post page? Disregard the blog then, and follow advice on this thread.
My net sucks right now, 56kbps, it's gonna be a pain in the ass to check it out >.<
I will test these advices on 2 blogs and then i post my results here.

I agree 100%, but the most creative designers won't be skielld in seo, it's a marketer thing
That's why it's best to buy a great theme and then optimize it

1) page length?
let's say that you have 2000 words of content, 10 pictures, and 3 videos based around something like "how to train a dog" (trying to use a common IM theme) (all unique content)
would suggest 1 big article with all that content, a 3-4 part series well interlinked, or other?
and if a 3-4 part series, how much "overlap" (ie covering the same topic, but the content is not duplicate) would you recommend?
2) multiple similar links within the same block of content
ie if you have a 700 word page based on "dog food reviews", and "dog training" is in the article maybe 10-15 times - do you recommend linking once, multiple times, or for every instance on that page?

@white92 - I prefer DIV tag for that as it contains no keywords. If you do something like "X replies to %post_title%" then you can make it a H2-H4 maybe. The reason for this is that 2nd version contains the actual post title, hence the keywords, and is also different for every post, not the same text. As a rule of thumb if you have a title or whatever that is the same on many pages don't use a H tag for it.

- You make it super duper interesting or comprehensive and want to "sell" it as "THE resource" on the topic you cover and increase chances of it to be linked to naturally.
- It makes a lot of sense to have it all in one post
- You want to direct your linking efforts to one URL so you optimize for both main keyword and secondary keywords at the same time.
- You optimize for mainly one keyword or for mainly one keyword family.
- Makes more sense from a content structuring point of view
- There's a clear separation of ideas and keywords
- You want to build links to multiple pages since any links you send from those pages can be towards more URLs than from on single page.
That being said, best thing is to do both, this way:
