I'm a bit lost here.
I have Adsense ads on my WP blog, implemented through Google's Sitekit.
I'm using Auto-Ads, which is horrible. It shows 3 ads above the content on mobile, and no ads between post paragraphs, which is a bit odd.
I thought about managing them through a plugin, but not sure how and if it would work.
I'm looking into Advanced Ads – Ad Manager & AdSense and Ad Inserter – Ad Manager & AdSense Ads, leaning towards Advanced Ads, but purely because it has more reviews and active sites.
Can it clash with Google Sitekit? Any best practices for ad placements? Should I expect an EPM hit? I've read a few articles but they all contradict each other, leaving me as clueless as I was before.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You can see tutorials on how to place ads in between a paragraph. Once you have done the changes, it will result in higher earnings.
 
I am using Ad insertor plugin which performs well for me.
 
My AdSense pager RPM is at $130, and this is the setup I use:
First, to answer your question, it's ok to use Sitekit + Ad Inserter or Advanced Ads together.

1- Use AdSense auto ads for only vignette ads, remove auto in page ads
2- Setup Ad Inserter, add 3 in page slots for desktop, and 3 for mobile (assuming you have ~1000 words per article)
3- Desktop: Right after the title, sidebar, and mid content (expect a click share of 70% 15% 15%)
4- Mobile: Right after the title, mid content, right after the end

I've tried this setup so many times before, and for 80% of the websites, this is the most optimized setup - unless you have lots of photos or special content. In that case, run experiments.

Bonus point: turn the anchor ads off on both platforms, it increases your bounce.
 
Based on my experience, auto ads are kind of hit or miss.

On some days, I get really good a really high CTC rates.

On others, I barely get any clicks, and of those and those only come in at a few pennies each.

I suspect it depends on how long you have AdSense auto ads on.

But based on my latest blog statistics, things do mellow out after a while and your EPM rate stabilizes at a decent rate.

Of course, there are many other factors to consider.

The primary consideration of course is where your traffic is coming from.

Another big factor is your overall niche.

Honestly, the auto ads are placed so badly that sometimes I can't understand how it didn't hurt my rankings. There are some obvious placements that they ignore, too, like between paragraphs.

There's a lot of stuff here that I started testing, and some that I implemented immediately, really helpful comment. I kinda regret not replying to it earlier.

How about type and size ads on Destop and Mobile ?
