Adsense Limitation

Hey all

The background is: I have a handful of sites using Adsense.

Each site has at least 93% organic traffic.

A few days ago, I got this: The number of ads you can show has been limited. For details, go to the Policy centre.

I checked Adsense stats over 7 days, 21 days, 30 days, the day of the warning, and the day before the warning. Nothing stood out (Except for impressions - see below)

I then checked Analytics for the same periods of time for each site individually. Nothing stood out.

Did I make any changes recently? Yes. I added WP Rocket.

When adding WP Rocket, it sped my sites up considerably. It did this by delaying JS execution until a user action had been completed (scroll mostly). One of these JS files was the adsense code. Since applying that, my impressions had taken a bit of a dive, as did my revenue. I switched that option off, and my site was slower than it was before.

It is a fine line between UX and revenue... but I leaned towards UX and reapplied the setting. Revenue took a hit again, but the speed increased nicely. I was happy with that.

Then a day later, I get that warning from Adsense, no ads are showing, and I think these are linked!

I have two questions:

1. Does anyone use Adsense + WP Rocket + Have adsense JS delayed until a user action is completed? If so, did it cause any issues?
2. Am I talking sh!t, and this is just a coincidence.

I should add that whilst ad impressions + page views went down in adsense reporting, it did not go down in Analytics. It is this reason why I think big g has an issue.

I can't tell if this is the reason for your case or not. However, I advise you to exclude Adsense JS from WP-Rocket's lazyload list. Because when you enable that it lazy loads everything using scroll events including the Adsense Ads that are already in the users' viewport. The lazy load should not be like this and it should only lazy load the ads that are not in users' viewport. When you get more organic traffic Google will lift the limit. There are several other reasons for this including referral traffic and social media traffic and you need to have a decent amount of organic traffic with these types of traffic sources. Has your limit been fixed yet?

Thanks, yeh that's what I did once the Adsense limitation was added. Excluding the Adsense script actually made my site slower than it was without WP-Rocket so I uninstalled it and got a refund.

Adsense still shows that my account is limited but the impressions and RPM are where I expect them to be, which is strange... but I guess I'll just leave it until they officially remove the message.

They take their own sweet time to do it, but all you can do now is leave it as it is and wait for them to take action

I stopped using WP-Rocket as soon as I got the limitation. I still think it was because of the delay loading the script... I have a feeling it looked to adsense like I was getting impressions but 0 page views, which must have triggered something. This was because I delayed the adsense code until a user action took place.

After I removed wp-rocket, I checked the stats, they showed nothing out of the ordinary (over 90% organic) so I just left it and waited

Set some Google Analytics alerts for detecting self-referrals and referral traffic anomalies so in the future when an anomaly occurs you will immediately get an email.

Hi, can you please tell me which warning did u get? invalid traffic or assessing traffic? Because I was going to purchase wprocket for speeding up my website and when researching found I this thread.

I got this: Ad serving limit placed on your AdSense account

I believe they then manually check the traffic to your website and remove it if there is nothing spurious going on.

Although I can't be certain that it was WP-Rocket, the following is true:
1. Traffic remained at 90 odd % organic and hadn't deviated
2. I installed WP-Rocket and added the adsense code into the settings 'Delay Javascript Execution' which is:

Delay JavaScript Execution improves performance by delaying the loading of JavaScript files until there is a user interaction (e.g. moving the mouse over the page, touching the screen, scrolling, pressing a key).

My thoughts are that the script didn't load until a user action is completed (as expected) but in the eyes of Adsense, they were potentially showing ad impressions but hadn't picked up the page view yet. That might have tripped a trigger in Adsense and kicked off the warning/limit until manually checked.

I removed the Adsense JS code from that setting but my site speed was worse than it was without WP-Rocket, so I just deleted the plugin and got a refund.

If you decide to go for WP-Rocket, I suggest that you don't add the Adsense code into the 'Delay Javascript Execution' setting, just in case it is related.

Thanks so much. I think I wont use it. I was going to use it cuz my page insight score is very low because of adsense. btw I asked whether it is from invalid traffic or assesment cuz they asses the traffic of new adsense accts. which one was applied for you.

It's happened again. I can't use this shite from google, nothing has changed in terms of traffic/source/clicks/impressions. No emails from the alerts set up. It seems that it is not just the search engine they are fucking up at the moment.

Bunch of ball-washing bastards (love that insult)

I'll head on over to the relevant forum to get ideas on a good alternative.

I'm sorry this has happened to you but maybe some click bombing is going on. Have you double checked your traffic?

Yup - double checked traffic to all sites and all visit/clicks/impressions/organic traffic numbers are all within the expected deviation. Bizarre.

The traffic was checked in GA - the clicks, page views, and impressions are checked in Adsense.

It happened without using WP-Rocket too, so I wholeheartedly apologize for attributing any blame to them

That's a bugger dude. I just had the exact same problem with 1 of my sites. I'm also using WP rocket but didn't delay any Google ad JS. My traffic has slowly been increasing but I see no sign of click fraud or CTR change.

From what I've read so far this is a royal pain in ass... Hope it comes back to normal.

Cheers dude - yeh, it's a pain. I've got a couple of sites using the account but I've got no idea which one is causing it. There are no obvious fluctuations and google is basically just a bunch of poorly performing robots with no humans to speak to.

If it follows the last timeline, I should get it back on the 3rd, then removed again on the 17th
