I have a client whose business is 30 miles outside of the big city he wants to target. The GMB is also registered in the small city.

Am thinking of adjusting the map pin to the big city but don't know if it will affect my ranking as it will be 30 miles away. I have previously adjusted the pin for another client but it was only like 2 miles and he ranks fine.

Also he wants me to hide his address from the map. The business address will be verified anyway but will that affect his rankings?

Does anyone have experience with this?

It might actually affect your ranking because Google prioritizes local businesses in search results.

Moving the pin significantly further from the actual location can lead to issues. Google's gotten better at recognizing real vs. perceived locations, and inconsistencies can hurt local rankings or even lead to suspensions. Hiding the address is fine for service-area businesses, but the actual location still factors into local SEO. Instead of moving the pin, focus on building local relevance through other means like local citations, community engagement, and content that highlights connections to the target city.

If you move it 30 miles, you'll re-trigger verification. Under 1 mile will be safe if you adjust the pin first, save, and then fix the address.
