Adivce needed

Hi all i am looking to start a magazine (monthly) within my niche.

Im a newbie when it comes to this.... How would i get charged per page or per booklet?

OP starting a magazine needs lots of funds.

If you are trying to work out what to charge for advertising space then first you need to have an idea of the potential circulation, then what the printing costs will be and also how you would distribute the magazine and what that will cost.

Magazine and most printed media circulation is falling so I would suggest doing plenty of research before attempting a launch.

^^^Right on the money. Print is dead. At least for start ups. Some established magazines still have a reader base...but I would never dream of starting a magazine these days.

It is going to take an absurd amount of money to start. Advertisers aren't going to pay money for spots without precise distribution numbers, demographics numbers, etc.

We have a local magazine here that looks nice and a girl came in to sell space one day. They wanted $2,000 for a small space. How many times in recent years have you seen an ad in a magazine and then jumped on your computer to visit their website or picked up the phone to call them? My guess would be never. Digital marketing/advertising provides the best bang for buck because you can get them instantly on the desired webpage and those visits convert to sales.

The ONLY print that I would even consider these days is small classified ads - IF you can find the cheap ones and some newspapers are still dirt cheap...but magazines, forget it.

The only people saying print isn't dead are the people still in the magazine industry...

I think i may look into an app. Is this more of a viable option? Or is there anything else?

Why not just start a blog? I wouldn't jump into an app...you are jumping to gun a bit.

Start a nice blog, build your readership, figure out a monetization strategy...then as you grow you can release an app if there is a demand for it. You can start a blog with a very limited budget.

An App could work and some people have been successful going that route.

I would follow the advice from netmoney1 to start a blog first then assess the potential for taking things further.

I would say that it would be much easier to charge by booklet. Why stress yourself over charging per page and having that stress of counting pages and all?
