Adding third-party RSS feeds to your website - Is it helpful?

Hi all!

I did a bit of searching (here & on google), but "News Feed + SEO" only return tips about how to best CREATE an RSS feed for SEO purposes.

My question is: I'm considering adding a little box with a Google News feed (through an RSS parser) to my website (of course a feed about a relevant topic).

My questions are:

1) Is this helpful? It would help freshness (which is good for SEO) and would drive visitors to the website for news, but what about duplicate content? An wouldn't it also drive visitors away when they click on the news (although for sure the links would be target="_blank")

2) What is the best way to do this? Are there guidelines?

It would be great if someone could share their experiences!

I don't have guidelines to share but I have heard somewhere (from Matt Cutts) that if your are adding link of reference source of the feeds, those feeds won't be counted as duplicate content.
