Adding content to wordpress directory site outside the cms

I've built a hyper-local directory using wordpress and decided to create some article type content based on my different categories.

The directory theme has a lot of code with all the categories, rather than add content in one of the pages directories, I thought it may be good to create an articles directory outside the cms. Could this help with seo?

I've been reading whatever I can find on local seo, but not much directly relating to promoting a directory, so any insights would be welcome.
