Hi Guys!

I heard someone mention in a podcast that you could lower a competitors ranking by adding their site to a malicious link farm that was penalized by google.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Worked in the old days but probably not now. Besides, its against blackhatter ethics to eff something up for a competing site;)

You'd better find a way to promote your own website. Even if you manage to penalize one website another will come. If you want long term success you must learn to do better seo than the rest.

Yea. It was a old podcast file. The problem is that my competitor is a national newspaper with domain age from 97, thounsands of links, around ~1000 th in alexa... Only good thing is that it has a pretty low PR(2).

I'll just continue my work then.

Trying to penalize a competitor site is NOT the way to go. Learn to make a super on site seo , write unique content , give something of value to the users and finally get a few quality back links.
But you need to be trained to do that. Analyze the code of the competitor site.. and write better code (in quality) than him!
Learn dreamweaver very well... it produces search engine friendly code.
Depending on the seach engine , you might be on the 1-5 page for very competitive keywords right from the start by having only a few quality backlinks doing what i said above. No black hat needed. As long as you keep building links in a stable and logical way you will be fine.

Nice one blackhat888 - your first post is question - "How to throw some shit at my competitor, because I am to lazy to wait few weeks for results?"

You are looking like a good, contributing material for BHW.

BTW - you will probably not outrank news paper - if you are ranking for "Financial Times" you can get high, but only because you will never outrun top spot and nobody really care to do SEO in this direction.

Haha. Sorry for asking a apparent lame question as my first post. I have actually been doing a lot of SEO efforts the last 6 months. on and offpage. The search term is actually my own name and my domain url is my name, so I just want to have the top term for that, not competing for a commercial term.

I actually do IM for a living and am worried that some of my customers might ask me why I even can't rank on my own name...

btw. the article that is on top is an article about something illegal another guy did many years ago that has nothing to do with me. A bit frustrating :P

And maybe thats the question you should ask yourself?

haha. No not viagra. I have 6 of 10 SERPs on the first page. I just can't beat the nr 1. :p

Extrawinner: I have, and I concluded that it would be up to my customers to decide my future. As long as they are happy with the results I make and keeps paying me, I'll keep on working ;)

damn newspapers. Im glad its not wikipedia at least..

Here 's the trick:

Ask your normal price for positions 2-3 (any one of them) and +a big bonus for #1. They will instantly love their #2 position. :D

If your business is IM then why would you want to rank for your own name?
Wouldn't it be more productive to rank for a keyword that's industry specific?
Unless your name's Matt Cutts!

LOL that won't hurt competition... Google knows if it was placed onto the top list and rankings, and they have been doing the right methods, but all of a sudden, it goes wrong for them, they will catch on that it's not a normal method for their site and it wont hurt it.

Think about it this way-

Why would you want to waste your TIME doing that while you could've used the same TIME doing the work for/on your site beating your competitor's page

Don't be lazy, work hard, and you'll see BETTER result

I totally agree. It is a temporary fix only. Better to better yourself so when they come back, you can oust them again.
