Adding an "s" to domain name?

When I add an "s" to the end of the domain name does G pick it up as a singular for the keyword when I'm trying to get an EDM? For example, I have a keyword:

Code: 
some longtail keyword for camera

I found the domain:

Code: 
somelongtailkeywordforcamera[COLOR="Red"]s[/COLOR].com

As you can see it has an "s" added to camera. So again, will I get the SEO benefit for the above keyword or will I be bonused for:

Code: 
some longtail keyword for camera[COLOR="Red"]s[/COLOR]

or will I get it for both? Or am I just over thinking this? :D

I think you get credit for both, but more for an exact

So, the phrase with the 's' will get more bonus - you can rank either one depending on which keyword you use in the rest of your onsite SEO.

Google also knows that "camera" and "cameras" is similar and, again, gives credit for both, although more for an exact.

Just my understanding though - nothing is set in stone with Google :)
 
Just an experience I had, I bought the s version of a domain because it had more traffic. I did the majority of my anchor text for the s version. I am sitting #1 for the s version and #4 for the non-s version. And once again I did not do much backlinking to the non-s version.
 
Ok, this is great info from both of you. Now I know to simply focus on the plural version or the singular & G00gle's big brain should figure out the rest.

i made a mistake , bought a domain with 's'
it's so darn hard to rank it..
 
In my experience you will lose the exact match bonus even though Google will recognise the plural/singular relationship. Exact match is exact match.... they shouldn't be so strict but i think they are.

However if the exact match domain is unavailable for your KW then it's the next best thing. You'll get credit the same as if you did isomelongtailkeyword but it woudl sound better and presumably there will be some search on the plural too

dont do it!

i bought 10 domains to dominate the first page of google within the past 2 months. 2 domains without an s & 8 with it. same link building / same template / same backlinks.

guess which 2 are ranking for the target long tail keyword?

yea the 2 without. $80 down the drain in terms of ranking for that keyword.

save yourself the hassle and just buy domains without the s
 
If you can't buy your keyword domain name then add an "x" to it. Google will disregard the x. It reads it like the keyword
 
Buy it. You can use both, just build your backlinks with the one that gets more searches google will drop the s.
 
Google is smart, and consider 's' as plural. So it back to SEO again.
 
Counts as both, onsite content and internal linking will help greatly with ranking.

I used to run "watch sites", and noticed little difference between (showname)episodes DOT com and (showname)episode DOT com when targeting the keyphrases "showname episodes" "showname episode 1..100" "watch showname" etc

Google reads the domain identically as it would to the root thanks to its automatic spelling correction routines
 
really dont want to harp on this subject from when i delete it from subscribed threads. but take the advice from somebody that was in your shoes and made a bad decision. dont get greedy. just buy the domain with an s after youve made your money from the sites without it. just my 2 cents
 
Too late, I pulled on the "s" versions. Oh well, I'll report back in this thread months from now what I find. It may work for some & not for others.
 
i think the 's' is slightly harder to position since its not exact kw
 
Good luck. I have had success with both. I think that if you try hard enough, your s domain will rank for what you are trying to rank.

Ok, but where can I find insider info on that?

I already own countless domains an don't want to spend more for tests when thy may be available somewhere.
