Adding A Forum

I am a newbie needing some advise. I have a blog that is ranked on page 1 of yahoo. I have had several comments on my site by visitors asking me to put a forum on my site. I would really like to put a forum there, I think it would bring some more possible sales to my site but, I was wondering if adding a forum would drop me down in the rankings.

If you will keep the existing blog AS IS and simple add forum there, you won't drop in ranking. As about the forum engine, I'd suggest you to try http://simple-press.com/.

how would I go about installing into wordpress? Would I install it into the root folder or into a folder named forum in the root folder?

Install it at the root of your WP in the "plugins" directory and in your cPanel, make a redirection like forum.yourwebsite.com which point toward your forums.

I think the there is a possibility of generating more traffic with a forum, also the possibility of placing more affiliate ads on the forum pages without it looking like I am spamming the ads.

I have add a forum to one of my sites that I though would fit the niche but it just never really took off. Traffic was good to the blog though. I think it just really depends on what type of site you have. Forums would be good for every site out there.

If you have a comment section, that should be sufficient, and less work.

simple-press looks like an easy way to get a forum to an existing wordpress blog (lot less hassle than dealing with 200 redirecs for old pages if you should leave wordpress) I just tried registering for a site and there was no anti-bot stuff, I could make accounts there all day, and if I can, everybody can. Are there ways to secure the account creation against bots?

It definetely wont drop your rankings, and if your going to do a forum I would recommend mybb software =)

I hadn't considered adding а forum bесаuѕe I've beеn focusing оn gеtting comments. On оne of my blogs, therе аrе some comments but not manу on thе other. I wоuld hate tо have a forum аnd thеn nоt get participation, whісh would make іt lоok lame.

I guess I cоuld trу оnе and ѕeе what haррenѕ but mаnу people аrе оn vаrious forums аlready sо I thіnk уоu'd hаvе to offer somethіng a lіttle diffеrеnt tо keeр folks coming back.

Adding forum within your website would not take you down as a matter of fact it will ensure some constant visits. The only you thing should be worrying about is the content that will be posted on the forum. For that you need to closely monitor the comments and have check if they are posting any adult or porn content.

Check out the WP plugin, Mingle Forum. I just started using it on one of the sites I run and its amazingly easy to configure and secure.

Forum will add value to your website and to add a forum I suggest you to integrate buddy press, it works better with Wordpresss.
