Adding a directory to wordpress site

So iv been trying to find the best way to add a directory page to my existing wordpress site. Cant really find any solid guides. I should say iv never tried this before so hoping someone who has experience of it can help me out. Id like one that can eventually list certain niche businesses worldwide. I see it on alot of sites but actually no idea how its done
