I am interested in adding a forum to my WordPress website in this style:

rvingknowhow.com/community/

Something similar to that. The important thing is that it is not so heavy, obviously at the beginning, it would not have almost no users.
What do you recommend?

Add users, do fake activities using bots, post valuble content, invite your target audience. It should then start growing organically else it didn't work.

Ok. But how do I install something like this in Wordpress?

It doesn't have to be a part of your CMS. You can manually install it in a subfolder.

You should make sure that you have the monetization figured out because I understand that Adsense don't like UGC, and there's some sort of approval you must get to have their ads on a forum.

I guess if I exclude the folder in Adense and Ezoic it would not be a problem.

Donno to be honest with you, I mean you can use appropriate plugins and theme to get forum going, but you also need some ways to fake it till you make it.

Of course to give it realism and activate the forum or it will never have users I understand.

And I forgot to ask again. Subdomain or in a folder?

I would recommend to choose for WordPress + Discourse integration.
All BuddyPress or other WP-compatible forums are outdated. Discourse is the software we are using as a support board.

Adding a forum can EXPLODE YOUR CONTENT VOLUME and POSSIBLY get you more traffic

But...

It takes work

A lot of work!

Remember: Forums suffer from a chicken or egg problem.

You can't get posters if your forum doesn't have enough posts

But you can't get enough posts because you don't have enough posters

Break the impasse by creating tons of user names and posting and even having little 'fights' among them

Also, scraped memes in your niche can help a lot

Scraping and rewriting from Reddit can help with this ... mixed in with HUMAN posts and simulated account interaction

Perfect. So, in a subdomain or in a folder the forum?

I am already testing on a test domain with phpBB, if I create a subdomain like forum.mysite.com will it affect my main site?
I understand that in search console I should add it because it would have nothing to do with my main site.

To add a forum to your WordPress website, you can install a plugin such as bbPress or Simple:Press. These plugins will allow you to create a forum on your WordPress site.
