Adblocker Detected!

Hey all,

I am using a Wordpress site that has a built-in Adblock detector plugin.
I recently started wondering whether this is actually something that I want on my site.

The Adblock detector can perform a couple of features if an adblocker is detected:
Hide content/ Show popup/ Floating notice/ shortcode.

Since the built-in adblocker can potentially make people click off, which I don't want, do you think I should remove the plugin? As I am sometimes adding Amazon associates links in my articles, but I also like Adsense.

My theory is that people with an adblocker enabled can still become customers via Amazon affiliate links, that is why I don't want to bother them. However, making people disable adblocker could increase Adsense revenue.

Right now I'm struggling to get organic traffic and am grateful for any hits that I might get.
My site does not have enough traffic for me to test out my doubts.

Anyone have any real-life data on 'profit before', and 'profit after' having an Adblock detector enabled?

I doubt that info would be published. You'd probably have to split-test it on your own site and let the test see if it helps or hurts. Personally I avoid sites permanently who detect my ad blockers. I can think of two news sites I no longer visit because of it. But what matters is your bottom line, so you need to figure this out for your own needs.

One of the problems I see with a plugin like this is some sites have popups along with banners and other ads on the page. All it takes is for a user to turn their ad blocker off and get bombarded with ads to ensure they never turn it off again.

Maybe consider adding some images with an affiliate link that look like ads. You can also use a JavaScript alert with a message about your site relying on ads for revenue. Set a cookie for the alert to display once per browser session so it does not annoy repeat visitors.
