Anyone know the magic behind adwords ranking system and why it says expected click through rate below average? 8% is not bad in my book.

Quality score is based on several factors:

• Display URL's previous CTR
• Account history - CTR of all ads and keywords
• Keyword expected CTR
• Landing page quality
• Ad relevance to keyword
• Keyword relevance to search terms
• Geographical performance in regions you target
• Site specific / device performance

So while yes, 8% is a good CTR, as you can see there are many other factors involved that you might need to explore.

It could be that your competitors are doing 13% + which is why they think your ctr is below average.

Just my 2cents.

I agree. I also think it depends on the avarage ctr of the competition.
