I was just researching the traffic for a certain keyword. The numbers seemed weird on Google so I compared it with Ahrefs and Google stated 30.000 monthly searches for the keyword, while ahrefs stated 14.000 monthly searches for the keyword. My question is, therefore, which one should I trust and use moving forward. One would think that google itself had the most accurate data but I just can't help but put it into question after this discovery as Ahrefs also should be very accurate. I therefore hope that some of you guys with more experience could enlighten me on this issue. Thanks in advance :-D

as much as I hate google I will still trust their own data more than 3rd party tools. So, for me it's 30k visitors per month, but no one can really tell....
Yeah, I would think so too. I have another question about the kewword planner. Inside Googles keyword planner it actually shows two drastically different number. A higher one in the graph and a lower one in the list. (Above 50K in the graph) Did I miss anything? Is the graph maybe all the related keywords being added together or something?

I honestly don't know cause I've stopped using KP long ago. Someone else maybe can answer this

Mostly, prefer ahref more than google planner Because each tools have different way to analyse and also different algorthim.

I would like to Trust Google Keyword Planner. It is Google's own data. If you are getting 15k on ahref and 30kn on ahref, let us assume that the volume is 15k+30k/2= ~23k for our convinence.

I would say that because Google temsleves say that they hate providing data and Ahref more or less is 80% accurate.

Averaging out will possibly give you a better picture, atleast you have a little clarity than being confused and searching.

15k,23k,30k do not really matter, at times I never rank for my seed keyword, but for some long tail keywords that even do not show activity in Google Trends.

I have experienced a few keywords that show zero activity on Google Trends forget Ahref or Semrush and give me around 200-300 visits a day!

SEO is all about taking (even Google's) data with a pinch of salt

If you think about it, Google keyword planner isn't going to be doing itself any favors by reporting completely accurate information.

Google knows that a lot of people using the Google Keyword Planner tool are not looking to launch AdWords campaigns or any kind of advertising campaign on its system.

Instead, they're trying to do it for SEO purposes.

So there is a lot of incentive on their part to hide the ball.

Ahrefs works along the lines of projection.

So, basically, it would take a small data set and make predictions or projections of it.

Sometimes, it’s on point. And in other cases, it’s just completely off the mark.

That's to be expected. That's the kind of risk you run when you use projections.

Google Keyword Planner, on the other hand, uses traffic ranges—and it doesn't really need to do that.

It could give you accurate information if it wanted to.

It just wants to hide the ball because it wants to keep people guessing.

So if you are looking to build a site using these tools’ data, I would suggest using a set of many different tools.

So use Ahrefs, Semrush, and other tools, and come up with some sort of average.

The truth is tools like Ahrefs have told me in the past that a keyword has zero or low traffic, and it turned out that I get a lot more traffic from those keywords.

Remember, these are just projections.

So I would suggest that you should allow them to guide you, but at the end of the day, it all boils down to search intent.

Focus on the reason why people enter a certain keyword into Google to look for your content instead of another keyword.

Base your content on that intent, and you will do better.

Ahrefs extrapolates based on past data. Google frequently updates and provides real-time data. You should trust Google keyword planner data.

Data is something you cant get the accurate result. There are many tools available I prefer finding the result from 3 4 sites and averaging them.

Shouldn't me much of a difference but understand that Ahrefs uses Google data only

Only trust Ahrefs - Google kw planner is a big liar.

If you don't believe in me - do a test:
Compare search volumes of "chatterbat" on both Ahrefs and G kw planner.
Then check traffic to first top results.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Ahref always shows inaccurate data for Porn keywords.

Infact, if you search for a porn kw on Ahref Keyword Explorer, it filters out the porn site rankings. I have observed this a lot. Again, not a seasoned porn niche guy just my observation.

Google keyword are better then any other.

There's not much of a difference between the 2 what ahrefs does it gets the data from google and few other sources and presents you with their findings. If you will ask me just with regards to the keyword volume data I would trust Keyword planner. Any tool paid or free has it's use but when it comes to metrics of any kind you can't blindly believe them always do your own research to check if those metrics are actually reliable or not.
