Hi all i'm new to adwords, today I had a voice mail from Google Account Strategist saying they can help me create a more productive strategy, has anyone else had a call like this? is it worth the time? :)

this is pretty normal, they have good hints, but be careful as they are salesmen also. they advice good strategies, but often a higher budget is needed.

I wouldn't recommend it. Google will give you good results for traffic, but not good results for ROI.

I've had private Google account managers help me manage my accounts and I had to go back and change everything they did because all they really only know is how to increase your CTR and average Position. What they do not know is how to do is to eliminate irrelevant searches, stop your ads from displaying during pre-sell your visitors in your text ad, and increase your revenue.

I had them call me and offer free addwords coupons, I think 20 $100 free for my customers and for those starting they provide free training on how to better present and sell the services to your customers, I think also that you can get certified for free for google addwords partner. I think its free I cant remember for sure, they've also sent stuff to the office t-shirts, backpacks, peanuts, candy and other stuff. I also get invitation to speak at their events, get invitations to hang with the experts when they are in town so if you don't mind spending a bit of time talking to them and some free stuff :) I suggest talking to them to see what they have to say.

Being in the business for some years now and managing a lot of accounts I have had extensive experience with these calls from Google reps. They will give you a couple little nuggets of novice info sometimes useful most of the time not, but for the most part they are sales people that tell you how to increase your adwords spending. I do have to admit they have gotten a bit better than they used to be. They used to call and tell you to put all your keywords in broad match only and give you a coupon code.

I have had dedicated reps now for a while, they are much more helpful and knowledgeable. You have to spend quite a bit with Google to get a dedicated rep though.

I've dealt with these guys before and IMHO they are simply a typical sales guy - nothing more nothing less. If you can use that type of help go for it, but frankly i didn't feel like they gave me any benefit.

It is very normal, they call almost every new adwords customer.

If your are a total noob with adwords they may help you with some advices, but if you know what you are doing they are absolutely not worth the time.

They are way more of salespeople than "experts" or "strategist".
The main "strategy for better result" they will give you essentially goes down to increasing your bids and overall budget.

Wow just spent forever typing a message and then it froze & disappeared $%^#$%@#%.ET$%$#^^$#@

I did manage to take a screenshot before it froze though. Rofl. Incoming rant:

This is what the Account strategist forgets to tell you!

Google measures success based on Click Through Rate, while you measure success based on Conversion Rate. Being nice to them will get to access to limited betas and other cool tools/market research, but doing what they suggest hands down will cost you a lot of money, poorly spent for the most part.

Are you doing blackhat tecniques? Beware from them...
