Accidentally Way over optimized anchor text ratio

So last week my site was climbing up Google with a combination of PBN, web 2.0s, and blog comments. Everything was perfect except for the blog comments. I found auto approve sites with good trust flow, set my "name" as a keyword (1 word), and put my website under the "website" box for leaving comments. After a couple of days I realized my rankings were dropping. My main keyword went from #15 to #23 (today).

The problem is that a couple of sites have a "recent comments" sidebar that was including my "name", which was a keyword, which had a link to my site. After I realized this I posted regular comments on the sites that were doing this so that I could move my previous comments out of the recent comments box, but it has been a few days and my site is still dropping. I'm building profile links and social bookmarks with generic anchor text at the moment, but is there something else I could do? Maybe disavow the links? I know for the future I should not use keyword anchor text in blog comments.

It could just be the Google dance, what sort of drops have you now seen?

I'm not too experienced with seo, but isn't the dance a more dramatic drop of rankings? My main keyword has been dropping by about 1 position per day for the past week, and 3 others have dropped by around the same number of spots. One long tail has improved by 2 positions, and another long tail that I am not directly targeting has improved from #50 to #32 (over the past week).
 
Are you sending those blog comments to your websites directly? Automated? Many?

Don't do that mate, or you will have to learn from your mistakes and start over.
 
How old is your site? I think you should not worry if it's less than 2-3 months old. I am seeing exactly similar shake-ups these days, which I discuss on below thread:

The comments were manual, and less than 20. And yes directly to my site.

Interesting how similar our situations are. I published the content on my site last month but registered it in april.

I do not think it's due to the 20 comments, even if a few are site wide...

Give G00gle a week or two to settle

Do you think something else is causing it or just a normal part of ranking?

I'm only halfway through reading this but it's help a lot already. I used an online density checker and saw that the same 1 word keyword that I used on blog comments had the highest density out of everything my site (around 4.5%). It's hard not to use that word but I've taken it down to 3% and I think I'll try to get it to 2%. I'm trying to get percentages similar to my competitor's. Thanks

Knew it would help man. It has done wonders for me when i've faced the same situation.
 
Definitely, our situations are very similar. I am actually now starting to see it coming back gradually to where it was, which makes me think that it was just a regular Google dance. Panda is also rolling out too so there are some crazy SERP changes going on the daily basis.

In one of the niche which I am, which is also somewhat new in the market, you won't believe how crazy the SERPs are acting. The keywords for it are jumping like anything. One hour it's 6-10, next hour it's 150+ and sometimes nowhere to be seen. Each time, the results on first page are somewhat different for half of the guys on P1. So Google is evaluating and taking it's time on finally where to settle all these new people.

I am sure given few days, it will settle and feel it's not much because of your adding some comments or so.

PS, since you added content just last month, technically in Google's eyes (and it's cache), it's just a month old, just like mine.

Given all that, I certainly wouldn't worry and consider it as a part of normal dance and adjustment. :-)

My site just bumped up from 23 to 19! I made a lot of adjustments, so even though it hasn't been long at all I think that the keyword density changes are why the rankings have already improved. Thanks so much.

Have you checked to make sure your keyword densities are okay? It looks like that along with the blog comments, and of course the regular google dancing, is what caused my rankings to drop.
 
20 comments shouldn't cause any problem unless those websites have that 'recent comments' widget on a sidebar or footer. If they do, one comment from a large website will create 100s of links with your keyword. In your webmaster tools you'll see all of the sudden like 900 or 1200 links. If not, than it's normal google dance.

Yes that's what I was saying 3 websites had my link on the recent comments sidebar. On webmaster tools it shows 500+ links coming from one site
 
Great responses. It seems like a normal malfunction.. I will stay posted for an update.

totally agree, blog comments has no value these days, try to stay away from low quality links
