Accepting guest posts - how long should you wait for payment?

This is something that I find rather annoying.

I normally get a few emails a day asking if I'll accept a Guest Post.

Although most are thick as pigsh*t and reply back with a lower offer, even if I politely ask them not to, the ones that I do accept generally take ages to pay up.

How long do you think is an acceptable amount of time for me to wait before removing their link and keeping their article as free content?

The longest so far is "up to 4 weeks", whereas I think 5 days is plenty of time.

Or should I just give them much longer, because it only took me 5 minutes to add?

Buddy this is huge timeframe....never wait for this long!

Ideally, as @bartosimpsonio has rightly said, get the payment beforehand. Publish a guest post afterwards.

Not really. I tried that a while back. It resulted in fewer orders and less $$. For the time it takes me, it wasn't the best way. Many are agencies that need the article to be published first. But for Link Inserts I sometimes do. It just depends.

I can generally tell that if it's from an Asian/African-sounding name and they use Gmail, 99/100 are a complete waste of time. They pretty much always want something for nothing. I can give them a price of $50 or $5000 and they'll offer $5. DA is 70+ with traffic and solid metrics, so it's something I find a bit insulting really. The only real positive from those contacts is that I know the demand is still there.

My question is more about whether I'm being too hasty and removing the links too soon. If I don't hear anything I generally just remove the link and keep the content as free after like 5 days if I don't hear anything. But then I sometimes never hear from them - maybe it's because I removed their link too soon.

But I could wait 4 weeks as it's not doing me any harm leaving it up there. The only harm is it pissing me off with the time they are taking.

Your article can get crawled and the outbound link to those defaulters can get indexed within the 4 weeks time, potentially benefitting them for free. Why risk diluting your link juice for such people for free? Think like a miser here.

As a link seller these tiny things should matter to you.

K, here's another idea.

Make the article no-follow, no-index and block it on robots until they pay. No indexing before $.

Also for extra safety, cloak the article such that even if the bots spider it, they chew different content (for example, remove the a href from the links until they pay).

I think that's good. Just remove the links if you didn't hear back from them within a week after a few warnings.

if it doesn’t work, listen to the post above With no-follow links etc..

I do that more with Link Inserts. I've just found it's best to take the chance of publishing first - the majority do pay, so for me, it's worth it.

But I'll give it a try more with all Link Inserts (apart from trusted partners) and see how it goes.
 
If they pay in 4 weeks, its fine, as long as you are getting lots of orders.
Maintain an excel sheet , todoist remider rask.
The problem you are having is what everyone else is having is spammers asking for 5$ or free guest post.
What I do to solve this is, I just block them and delete all their emails as soon they say free or 5$ guest post:

What annoys me is when I ask them not to reply unless they agree to my fee. Yet they then reply offering $5! I know they are dumb, but even so, still get on my tits.

I have had some thoughts though:

1. Accept. Say, "Sure, send me the article" - once they send it, publish without their backlink. Free content if it's nicely written and I add a lot of link inserts into articles from previous customers.

And/Or:

2. Contact the website owner of the link in the article. Say payment wasn't received by Agency, but happy to deal with them directly. This only works if the original contact is an agency trying to get cheap placements. Good chance they'll pay more than $5.
 
After publishing, Payment have to be made within 48 hours.
If the amount is high, 50% upfront is compulsory. This will suit you
 
When I get these, I'll give them about a week to pay, or maybe a little longer.

I personally think a month is entirely unreasonable. lol
