I have no clue what proxies do or why I'd want one... I know it sounds dumb but oh well, would anyone like to explain the uses of proxies and if i want one where to get one or make my own or however it works in the proxy world?

During the cold war, Russia/China and USA fought proxy wars, for example in Korea or Vietnam (China supporting the communist Viets, USA fighting with the whatever, liberal Viets or smthg). USA and China didn't fight directly, but used smaller countries as proxies to avoid direct confrontation for a number of reasons such as USA kicking China's ass.

Now your computer is China, the proxy is the communist Viets, and the USA is the internet.

1) You don't want to get blacklisted (get your ass kicked) or sandboxed, so you use proxy servers to send your spammy requests.
2) You want to create multiple accounts on say Facebook but FB only accepts like 5 accounts per IP so you want to simulate multiple IPs (ie. looks like you are from new location each time)
3) You want to hide your IP for some obscure reason.. although this is not exactly bulletproof.

That's the main reasons why you want to use proxies, now don't ask me how they work technically because I have no idea and I'm not interested, as long as they are working and I know how to use them, I don't need to know anymore.

^^This. For your question about where to get proxies. People share proxies daily in the proxy section.

For private proxies, we have a BST..erm ... a market for that as well here in BHW.

Private proxies are used only by you.

If you would like to bot social networks like facebook, tumblr, you need proxies.

Well since you don't know what a proxy is or what it's used for, you probably don't need them, but there is a reputable supplier at my botting toolkit. http://www.ink2pixel.com/xgram

Don't even bother with the ones available publicly. Rent private proxies on fiver for as low as $0.50 each/month... have to buy 10 at a time though.

proxies are the middle man between you and the internet, instead of connecting directly to the internet, using a proxy server makes it so a website cannot receive your direct ip address, the only information that a site will receive when using a private anonymous proxy is the proxy server information and not your information. you can use them when creating multiple accounts for the same site. and many many more uses.

They are mainly used for privacy reasons and to protect your IP. This adds another advantage of using it for illegal activities since you can have a false sense of anonymity.

You can read some of the stickies here to know about what proxies are :)

I am paying $2/month per dedicated proxy. Am I paying too much?

A proxy or proxy server is basically another computer which serves as a hub through which internet requests are processed. By connecting through one of these servers, your computer sends your requests to the proxy server which then processes your request and returns what you were wanting. In this way it serves as an intermediary between your home machine and the rest of the computers on the internet. Proxies are used for a number of reasons such as to filter web content, to go around restrictions such as parental blocks, to screen downloads and uploads and to provide anonymity when surfing the internet.

I have never used proxies but I do use VPN. I know what proxies are and how they work but I'm curious to how you actually use them though, is there a software or program like HMA that you use to manage them and login etc?

no this is not a high price, is a very low price ....
IPs prices are on acquisition from $1 on all providers, and you have to think that there are costs with the servers bandwidth etc ...
also i really do not understand how some proxy providers are selling dedicated proxies with less then $1 / proxy ... A reasonable explanation is that they are selling shared proxies and you know that those are dedicated :) cause there is no way in this world as a client to see what type of private proxies you have ... shared or dedicated !

So, what is the magic number for the amount of proxies to purchase? I'm new and have scrapebox and SEDemon and have looked at several proxy services. They sell them in increments like 2, 5 , 10, 50 and so on. If I'm marketing up to 20 sites using this software, how many proxies do I need?

Start with 2 , if you find them insufficient buy more . Demand and supply fundamental

Ok, cool. Thanks. I know that there are tons of proxy services throughout the forum, but if anyone has any recommendations, I'd greatly appreciate it. Cheers.

Been using the ones in my signature without issue for months now.

Want to Hide your identity on internet ? Use a proxy

For higher anonymity buy and use a VPN ... In this way your ISP is unable to trace you and see what sites are you visiting etc, because the connection from your PC and the VPN server is encrypted ... if you are using a proxy they are able to view what websites are you visiting etc ...

Are those ones on Fiverr any good??
