About Using Dash ( - ) In Domain Name Or Choosing Other TLD?

Hello to the old timer.

I want to ask somethins about choosing the best domain name.

I've found one keyword which is actively being search since 2004 until present with the rising of 250%.

So I went to NameCheap and look for the domain name and;

bestactivekeyword.com

have been bought by someone else but leaving other tld such as .net, .org, .biz and etc remain available.

I then search again and;

best-active-keyword.com

was available and so was other tld.

My question, if I was only to choose the best domain name, which one should I choose?

The other tld of non-dashed or get the .com with the dashes inside the words?

hello, i have 1 site with dash (3 dash) blabla-blabla-blabla-blabla.com

and my site is #1 on SERP with 40million competition, btw the domain name is my primary keyword. so i suggest you best-active-keword.com

if best active keyword is your primary keyword. that would be great if you build links!

I Rank @ number 1 for some highly competitive terms with as many as 6 hyphens.

The only thing you may lose is some type in traffic.

guys sorry to interviene, just wanted to know if using bestactivekeyword.eu or any other tld wouldn't be as good as .com?

if not eu lets say .me or .ck or anything else at all

If you rely solely on organic traffic, you can go for any domain name. However, if you are building a brand, you shouldn't go for the dash. I guess you are building a micro site so the dash would be nice.

I avoid using hyphens if I can. I do use them ONLY as a last resort.
I try adding tips, review, reviews, blog, etc... to the end first.

I'd say a "legit" site these days, no hyphens. Not much is left.

Dashes work well - I have several domains with dashes ranking on page #1 of Google for high volume keywords matching the domain name as well as other keywords. Suffixes and prefixes also work well. If you want to go for other TLDs, go only for .net or .org

According to Matt Cutts speaking at a recent webmaster critique session Google makes no distinction between blahblahblah.com and blah-blah-blah.com "at this time".

If you can get a keyword and then put the - reviews or something like that, i have found that to work very well. So the keyword is still together, and then there is a dash after it with another word.
